Picked the TBS up tonight from the dealers, they've been again attempting to find the elusive intermittent misfire, this time they've disconnected the side stand switch to see if this cured it, opened it up on the motorway & it started again!!****
It does it above 5000 revs & the tacho needle flickers, then it settles down again, its still under warranty & upto now its had the carbs drained, the CDI unit renewed & now the side stand switch disconected.
I've thought for a while its either a dodgy coil or maybe the ignition pickup?
Anyone any other ideas???
My next move may be to take it up with Triumph

Have you had the coils changed?????

I know my bike is slighly different to yours, but the symptoms you're describing..... I have had a new brain thing, new wiring harness, plugs, caps, and one new coil. All under warranty. That solved it, for a good 6 months and then it started again.... So the other coil was changed and so far, touch wood, the problem has gone.

Get them to try it....

Oh and do you have an alarm fitted??? It may sound daft, but that was the start of all my woes...

The coils have not been changed.........yet!!!!
There is an alarm fitted, but all along I've been inclined to think it was one of the coils for some reason...

What alarm is it????? Is it the Triumph/Datatool alarm or some other make???

I ask because I've been in touch with Triumph about the problems I had with mine....
I had the alarm fitted because I was under 30 and it took £150 of my insurance quote. I was still paying over £400.... The alarm has paid itself for this year! Also I don't have a garage, and it's parked in a public car park at work. And it was fitted between failing my first test and passing my second.... :

Anyway I digress...

My receipt says genuine Triumph Alarm....but it wasn't. I'm now on alarm number 4 that is a genuine Triumph alarm....
With the geniune alarm, it should plug straight in. They put a plug in the harness so there should be no hacking into the cables. With the one I had fitted they had to cut into it. With modern bikes having a processor thing they'll be as prone to problems with static as a computer. And static can go through a system like a dose of salts.

So if your alarm is not Triumph/Datatool....

See what I mean???

Get the coils changed. I'm not a technical person, but your problems sound the same... though I don't have a tacho, so that bit I don't know about.

If that doesn't help, then get in touch with Triumph. At least you'll have done all the sensible stuff before ranting at them...

Lift your tank & have a look at your vacuum hose that runs from one of your carbs to the petcock. Make sure it has not got a kink in it. This has happened to me before. Your bike runs well untill higher revs when your carbs demand more fuel & just doesn't get it due to insuficient flow from the petcock. This is because the vacuum hose is not producing enough "suck!" to fully open the petcock valve.
