Hi, I've booked up on the 29/07/06 for a bikesafe course. Any advice on what to expect, cheers.

Well if it's in Lincolnshire you can expect to see the Police motorcyclist running the course crash someone else's Fireblade! :-D
Apparently he "panic braked into a left hand bend and ploughed straight on". Just reading the article in todays MCN. The poor man who lent the Fireblade thought it was in safe hands!

You gotta laugh!

Did mine a couple of years ago, at the Ace Cafe in North London. Great day, best bit was 2 40 mile assessment rides, with a Police Class 1 rider, encouraging safe but progressive riding. Got a lot from the day and I am what you might call an experienced rider ( Bike Instructor!), so if you are less experienced, you should get even more! Go at your own pace, relax and you will get a lot more out than you put in! Enjoy! :-D

Ps Make sure you turn up with a full tank, spoils the ride if you have to re-fuel.

You don't say where you're doing yours, but I'm doing one in Sheffield this Saturday 24th, assuming my bike is back from it's repairs by then

I'll let you know how it goes

You will def learn that Bike cops are Human!

Also if they are all like the guys I did mine with at the Ace Cafe the Jokes are real lame!

But seriously I learnt a lot! from filtering to cornering takes a while to get used to looking in your mirror and seeing a bloody great pan covered in yellow tho without sh*ting yourself, once you do it's a lot of fun :-D and you learn so much from them

Ditto about filling up just before you get there (especially if you ride a Hornet!) youll be surprised how much riding you do

All well and good making "good progress as the boys in blue call it" until the Police man behind turns on his little blue lights or the camera flash goes pop!

Sorry but I can't take being told by a policeman how to ride quickly knowing that on any other day he'd pull you for doing the self same thing. It all smacks a bit of hypocracy. And I and other mates have been treated pretty shoddily by the police in the past. Can't smile and tell em what great guys I think they are any more. unless I'm at work and I have too.

I know bike cops are human, but sadly only when not in uniform in my experience. I also feel that the police these days are not here to serve the public but to control us and in my book thats a big difference maybe one the Govt has pushed them into but not a geat situation when our guardians are become our agents of control.

So no bikesafe for me. Hope you enjoy it and get something out of it but you won't see me there.

Fair comment, Nickwiz. All I would say is that it depends on your definition of "Good progress". Fast group on track days, IAM and RoSPA rides (Anyone who has been on one of these knows how quick they can be!), never even stopped, let alone been treated unfairly by the Police. Give Bikesafe a chance, you will be surprised!

I enjoyed the North London (Ace Cafe) Bikesafe course so much, I went and booked on another over at Welwyn Garden City!

What I would say is the format of the course is different for each area. eg. The one at the Ace is a single day where as the WGC course is 6 nights (1 and a half hours each week in the classroom) followed by assessed ride.

The other difference is the Road Craft book is free at WGC, where as you have to pay for it at the Ace.

You also get home work over at WGC. and the jokes are far worse.

Both course I would say are great value for £40 and even after 23 years of biking, I learnt alot.

What I'm not sure about is taking the IAM. Thinking about doing another bike safe course in Wales or maybe Scotland next. Any recommendations?

Enjoy
