Christmas Dinner

I wanted to take advantage of the networking power of the forum here and ask for your advise. I would like to take my wife out to dinner for a Christmas season treat. We do not get out much anymore which means that my wife hardly ever gets out since having our son. This is partly my fault because I have developed a little bit of the pappa bear syndrome of the cave when it comes to babysitting my son and I feel he is too young to be left alone without either of us around. I am fortunate in regards that my wife actually agrees with me; once he is old enough to fully communicate with us then it will be time to have a sitter come in. This is one of the perils of being in the military and overseas where you do not have family around. Anyways...I would like to take my wife out to a nice and traditional beef wellington dinner. Obviously our son will be with us for the dinner so the restaurant cannot be so high scale that it does not allow children. I know this kind of dinner can get pricey so I am not looking for something economical but rather, something that will make our jaws dropped in culinary delight. I want it to be something where my wife says in a few years time; 'remember that beef wellington dinner we had during our last Christmas in the UK...God that was good.' So now that I have completed my narrative...does anyone know of a really good restaurant in the Norfolk/Suffolk area that fits the bill of what I am looking for? Thanks for the help with this.

Hey Try Lavenham. The Swan is supposed to be very good. From memory it was as my Family took me there for my 40th.

Dunno about Beef Wellington but the food was good and the building is a medieval gem of Suffolk.

Failing that there's plenty of choice here.

Another famous place is

Probably pricey but again I expect its good.

Another possibilty for you. Seckford Hall in Woodbridge, it's a bit pricey but classy without being uncomfortably snobby. http://www.seckford.co.uk/dining.htm

The only downer on this is as far as I know, we do not traditionally eat beef at Christmas, really traditional would be goose, with the sort of veg and sauses you would have at thanksgiving, roast potato's mash potato's carrots sprouts cranberry and bread sauce, More modern is roast Turkey and that meal would really be identicle to your thanksgiving dinner, beef wellington is a fantastic meal that you eat whenever throughout the year as a treat but not really at cristmas, but you order whatever you want buddy and I hope you all have a very special day, Hintlesham hall in Norfolk really is special.
