Trident engine in a daytona????

Hi all,

My Daytona died a couple of weeks ago (Engine seized at speed whilst over taking a car on the motorway near Edinburgh) It's a long and scary story. Anyway I spoke to a bloke who has a '97 trident 900 engine and think's it will go into my '96 900 Daytona.
So I phoned my local Triumph dealer and spoke to some bloke (who didn't seem to be the sharpest tool in the shed) who was very ambiguous about whether it would fit.
Does anyone on here know if it's the same engine.

I'm desperate to get back on two wheels but don't want to fork out a shed load of money to end up with an over sized paper weight.

Engine will fit. I think any of the triple engines will fit, but there are at least 3 different states of tune;

high power; daytona, speed triple
mid; trophy, trident
high torque; tiger.

AFAIK it's all in the cams, so to get your CDI to work with a different engine you may have to swap cams.

Engine plugs straight in.

The swap is easier if you get the carbs and CDI unit that come with the donor engine.

Now there was I wondering about the other way round swop! hope you are OK from your incident.

My little ends have gone on a 21Kmiles 1996 engine and was wondering if a Daytona engine would fit in the Sprint! yea I would imagine the cdi might need to be changed and possibly carb setup? Is the exhaust OK though ie backpressure?

(was thinking of a 955 engine to start with )

If you have not bought the engine, how much does he want and can I have his number please?
