Thumbs down Dyno Centre to Avoid: YPE Power Ltd (Bonnyrigg, Scotland)

Had my other bike's PCIII tuned by YPE Power Ltd, Bonnyrigg, Scotland a couple of months ago. Just wanted to forewarn anyone who is thinking of using them for dyno tuning/ dyno runs etc.

The guy who runs the place was friendly enough, but they charged £180 for 2.5hrs work (PDM in Sussex charge £50 per hour) and promised to send me my data on a memory stick within a couple of days i.e. the PCIII map data backup and the dyno runs that they did.

A dozen phonecalls, messages and emails later and they still haven't delivered. (last try was a letter sent recently). Bike seems to be running okay, but I only got a glance at one of the A/F charts and it didn't seem too flat to me - wanted to examine it when I had more time.

I'll post again if anything further develops, but I've pretty much written them off now and don't expect to hear from them.

Thumbs down

Well, no reply to my letter, so I give up. Big thumbs down to this company.

Yeah, YPE used to charge decent prices but the prices have gone up quite a bit recently. I think they aren't to bad for servicing but my bikes off the road so I don't know if that have gone up to.

The options for a decent mechanic around Edinburgh are getting few and far between these days. I've never used YPE, so thanks for the warning! The garage nextdoor to YPE do a good line in MOT's though; generally if there's something wrong you get the chance to fix it there and then before they fail the bike! Again, wouldnt trust them to actually fix anything themselves. They threw away my K&N the only time I used them...

I generally do all my own mechanicing but if there's something tricky I need done then there's only one person I'd trust, he's a personal friend living in Stirling, but PM me if you want his number.

Yeah the MOT a the place next door is like MOT by Stevie Wonder.
I don't think they do any servicing or anything though. They send you next door to get anything looked at.

Thanks for the tips lads. I personally wouldn't go near a mechanic who threw out a K & N filter if there was nothing wrong with it.

I heard through the dyno grapevine that the guy at YPE has lost interest in dyno tuning bikes properly - not sure if this is idle gossip, but it would support my experience of him. He (Stuart) insisted on cash when I paid him (rejected credit cards and cheques), with no paperwork changing hands, and now I can see why.

Sounds to me like that guy has "lost interest" or it could be that he thinks, at this stage he can charge whatever he likes because peolpe pay it. Taking the complete pixx caomes to mind.

I recently called into a shop here in belfast for a set of organic pads. They weren't even armstrong Kyoto or that other poor brand. I decided to take them and try them out untill i got the EBC's. I asked the price he told me and seriously my blood started to boil. 20 quid for two pads worth at most a fiver. I have been known to lose the plot over small things and i did with him. "Apologes".
Next day went round to local dealer got a full set of organic EBC for 32 quid.
News travels and i don't think he'll be in business for long.. I'm not twisted or bitter just sad that people think they can take the pixx. I hope maybe he learnt something from our little chat

Thumbs up Ype Power Is The Dynocentre To Use

Got my 1050speed triple mapped 2 months ago,i phoned up asked for quote guy said he couldnt compete with web prices for the power commander unit(very fair)a custom map would cost me between 160-180.the guy(big guy stuart i think) appologised that it had to be cash due to dishonest bikers bouncing cheques and stopping card payment after work done tossers!work done and i got vat recepit giving detailed breakdown, total breath of fresh air the guy straight talking down to earth,i got shown all the race bikes and got to see my bike getting dynoed and then shown various graphs, maps and stuff, i think the guys biggest problem is he cant say no to anybody needing bike help, your bad mouthing ype because you didint get graph or map? you say your bike went well enuf? you did go to get it set up! as far as him losing interest in dyno set ups? hes is fanatical about bikes. its people like YOU that ruin small workshops/buisness,all i have heard from other people/freinds is total praise for ype.quite frankly the guy can charge whatever he wants as he provides the goods!
MY GUESS IS YOU ARE A TOSSER ! go in and speak face to face with him and i would be gobsmaked if you didnt get your bit of paper/stick or whatever

Difference of opinion

Just goes to show that some people get better response than others. You get what you give!
