I saw this report in which a Sayville rider was hit by an Audi in Ronkonkoma. I was wondering how he's doing and particularly concerned by the last line of the report:
"Police impounded both vehicles for safety checks."
I hope this doesn't mean that the Audi driver will be let off the hook if the Harley didn't have all its reflectors or some other "fix-it" type thing.
Here's the item along with the usual bone-headed comments we see from the citizenry following a motorcycle accident.
LONG ISLAND NEWSDAY
November 5, 2012
A 49-year-old Sayville man was seriously injured Monday evening after his motorcycle collided with a car in Ronkonkoma.
Michael Sweeny was riding a 2007 Harley-Davidson southbound on Smithtown Avenue when he was struck by a 2011 Audi near Railroad Avenue in Ronkonkoma about 7:53 p.m., police said. Melissa Dipaola, who was driving the Audi, made a left turn from westbound Railroad Avenue onto southbound Smithtown Avenue and hit Sweeny's motorcycle, police said.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash. No arrests were made.
Sweeny was taken by Suffolk police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, police said. Dipaola, 29, of Lake Grove, was also transported to Stony Brook, where she was treated for minor non-life-threatening injuries.
Police impounded both vehicles for safety checks.
