Well I figure a few of you must have other interests besides bikes. I for one was trained to shoot by the USAF...we use to get ribbed all the time. But I was expert with my right and left hand. I also shot in a national competition when I got out and joined the national guard.

I have had a carry concealed permit for over 12 years now. I carry a Glock model 30. Besides a few others from time to time. I think I benefited greatly from the training I received besides learning how to shoot I was taught the importance of gun safety.

Glock 21

I believe most police departments here in the USA now carry
Glocks of some type, 9mm being most common...
I was trained in the Army and trained with a Colt 1911
.45 which I thought was the best...until I shot the Glock 21
The Glock 21 is the same caliber as a Colt 45 but twice the capacity
The Glock is a newer better design. No question.
I still have and am fond of the old Colt 1911 but
in an emergency fast situation the Glock is best.

Blasphemy. Dissing The 1911???, it is no wonder our culture is going to hell in a handbasket. Next thing people will be using plasticky holsters. Oh the shame.

The Glock 30 .45 cal. is also an excellent choice for concealed. It is easy to conceal and it holds more than a 1911. But this gun is meant for someone with a large hand. The clip is staggered so the grip is wider...but it works fine for me.

How we used to do it

I used to carry a Browning 9mm in days of old and as long as you kept it clean it would never let you down. Must say though for shear accuracy I fired the Walther ppk and loved it. Old school I know but if it gets the round where you want it.....

These new fangled Glocks look the dogs but living in the UK their is just no way I'll ever get to play with them :(

Still you never know, I'm planning a trip to NY, is their places over their where you can 'test drive?'

Cheers the Noo

Yes you can "rent" it

As to your question about "renting" a Glock.
I am not familiar with NY but in S. California you can go to a shooting range pay a small fee and "rent" what ever you want while your in the range...I was at the indoor range this last weekend and heard this ridiculous LOUD BOOM from a few lanes away and I stopped to see what was making the BOOM...it was a .50 cal. pistol Desert Eagle...a ridiculous handgun but louder than anything I had heard...the guy was "renting" it to see what it was like to shoot. He hated it but now he can say he fired one...
So you don't have indoor or outdoor shooting ranges there???

Not to the same extent as you guys have. Its getting to the point where you can't carry a tiny pen knife without threat of arrest.

Its a bloody shame really because when I was in the RMP it was the only thing I did really well was shoot. I would not mind doing it again but over here you need a licence - the criteria of which is very very strict, you have to be in a club, or own a farm, you have to have secure storage (which has to be inspected by a policeman) there are rules for tranportation, ammunition, ranges. The cost is also prohibitive making it a wee bit out my league, so most like me don't bother

Still theirs always paintball :D

Carrying in the US usually stimulates conversations on both extremes right and left. It would be nice if it could be looked at from the middle. If you were trained in the military and if you have no psychological or criminal back round carrying should be legal. Of course back round checks as well. The Police cannot be every where all the time. JMOP

I could not agree with you more Lee, everything over here is a knee jerk reaction. They take the extreme actions of a very minor section of the population and apply the sanctions to everybody.

I exist in a civilisation where a firearm is easily availible to the criminal on the street but if I were to injure or kill said criminal as they were comitting an offence on my property I would be the one they cart off to jail.

Its insane.....................if I wasnt too old I'd emigrate and I am a son of Scotland and a proud Brit but I weep when I see what is becoming of my country.

Sorry mate a wee bit of a rant, I did'nt mean for it to turn this way. Maybe I need a gun range to work off this agression :D

I'm taking the wife back to NYC next year so I'll look into getting a range then.

Apart from allowing them to be used in gun ranges (and kept there, not allowed to leave the building) they should be banned in my opinion. Gun ownership does nothing other than escalate the old 'my guns bigger than yours' paranoid mentality.

There again, I'm British so what do I know. I'll stick to my conkers and cricket bat! There again, I don't need to walk the streets with a cricket bat...

Lake I understand where you are coming from. But this thread is merely asking what is your personal weapon of choice. If you do not have one or do not want one please ignore this thread.

It is not meant to be a thread to debate gun ownership. So if you want you can also just say none. I would like the thread to continue on topic though. Thank you Lee:)

Sorry Lee I think my wee rant sparked something, I did'nt mean to take it off topic.

I've fired quite a few weapons in my day and I even fired a 38 revolver (the only revolver I've ever tried) I can't say I liked it all that much. To chunkie and clumberson for me. If were talking about personal weapon of choice then its really got to be the 7.62 GPMG, a wee bit hard to carry underneath yer jacket but will completely ruin the bad guys weekend :D

Are automatic weapons allowed in the US?

No apology needed. Most of the time gun threads go way off topic and get very argumentative. I merely wanted to know of the gun owners what they owned or have shot.
You can get automatics but it requires a federal permit.

I like it old school.

I keep a Ruger GP100 chambered for .357 magnum loaded and by my bedstand. I prefer the double action as my wife has to be able to grab it and shoot. It's easier for her to just point and shoot instead of worry about all the moving parts. I used to keep a Colt King Cobra .357, but sold it and now I'm sorry I did. Should have kept it.

I'm surprised this thread hasn't stirred up more arguments!

Personally I'm not into guns for self-defense, I keep a bat by the nightstand for that, but I have owned guns for years. My preferred rifle of choice is a WWII era M1-Garand, a beautiful rifle! As for handguns, while I shoot my .45LC single action revolver most of the time, I do love my Browning High Power.

Nog I have merely asked for the personal weapon of choice. If someone does not have one they need not add to the thread. I personally have a Glock model 30 .45 cal., a night stick, bat, Buck knives and a boot knife not to mention my Brinkmen for immediate protection....:D Now I think as a whole most military people are mature and knowledgeable enough to have this thread with out going off topic. I thank you all for doing such a fine job. Lee

The USAF taught me to shoot as well. Currently have expert marksman with the 16 and the M9. My personal handgun is a Springfield Government Model 1911. I love that thing! If we're not just talking handguns here, then I also have a 1944 M1 Carbine for home defense, a Savage 111 in .30-06 for long range target shooting, and I used to have a heavy barrel AR-15, but I needed the money, so sold it to a good friend. (conveniently enough I still get plenty of opportunities to use it) Firearms can be an excellent pastime, as well as a very useful tool.

I have a carry permit and usually carry a Kel-Tec P3AT (.380) with me. It fits perfect in my riding jacket pocket and is so light you can't tell it's there. The chest pocket on the jacket is so snug, the pistol doesn't bounce around at all. I also carry it iwb in a little leather holster I converted to a tuckable type. My favorite pistol I have, though, is my Springfield Armory 1911 Stainless Champion (4").

When I could carry I has a Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec. When it started giving me problems I switched to a customized Ruger Sp101 in 357 Magnum. Then I sold the 1911 for an XD in .45 ACP. Now that I reside in California, all defense needs have been relegated to a slightly modified Remington 870. I regret selling that 1911 though, so after my last deployment I organized a squadron purchase of Sig Sauer 1911s. Now I'm just playing the waiting game...:)

I love guns

Yes-Glock has a new slim grip 45 and I love it. Also like my S&W 6 1/2" revolver in 10 mm , the 6" Glock in 10mm and the Kimber custom 1911 in 10mm. Good round!

My new (Clint Eastwood movie) "Bloodwork" .357 8 shot S&W revolver is a very nice piece. Abit heavy but good feeling carry hunk.

This could go on and on- I hope and pray the commies in DC are stopped before they get to taking away our constitutional right to own guns. Woe be to them if they do .They will lose their place at the feeding trough.
