Personal Weapons of Choice

Well I figure a few of you must have other interests besides bikes. I for one was trained to shoot by the USAF...we use to get ribbed all the time. But I was expert with my right and left hand. I also shot in a national competition when I got out and joined the national guard.

I have had a carry concealed permit for over 12 years now. I carry a Glock model 30. Besides a few others from time to time. I think I benefited greatly from the training I received besides learning how to shoot I was taught the importance of gun safety.

Don't know about that. Most Brits have never even seen a gun, much less used one.

Love to use the Sig 40cal. with the Coast Guard. My service weapon with the NYPD is a Glock 19 and I carry a Tactical 9mm S&W 8 shot 9mm as a back up and off duty. Plus have various Hunting toys.

Glock 21

I believe most police departments here in the USA now carry
Glocks of some type, 9mm being most common...
I was trained in the Army and trained with a Colt 1911
.45 which I thought was the best...until I shot the Glock 21
The Glock 21 is the same caliber as a Colt 45 but twice the capacity
The Glock is a newer better design. No question.
I still have and am fond of the old Colt 1911 but
in an emergency fast situation the Glock is best.

The Glock 30 .45 cal. is also an excellent choice for concealed. It is easy to conceal and it holds more than a 1911. But this gun is meant for someone with a large hand. The clip is staggered so the grip is wider...but it works fine for me.

How we used to do it

I used to carry a Browning 9mm in days of old and as long as you kept it clean it would never let you down. Must say though for shear accuracy I fired the Walther ppk and loved it. Old school I know but if it gets the round where you want it.....

These new fangled Glocks look the dogs but living in the UK their is just no way I'll ever get to play with them

Still you never know, I'm planning a trip to NY, is their places over their where you can 'test drive?'

Cheers the Noo

Jock

Yes you can "rent" it

As to your question about "renting" a Glock.
I am not familiar with NY but in S. California you can go to a shooting range pay a small fee and "rent" what ever you want while your in the range...I was at the indoor range this last weekend and heard this ridiculous LOUD BOOM from a few lanes away and I stopped to see what was making the BOOM...it was a .50 cal. pistol Desert Eagle...a ridiculous handgun but louder than anything I had heard...the guy was "renting" it to see what it was like to shoot. He hated it but now he can say he fired one...
So you don't have indoor or outdoor shooting ranges there???

Not to the same extent as you guys have. Its getting to the point where you can't carry a tiny pen knife without threat of arrest.

Its a bloody shame really because when I was in the RMP it was the only thing I did really well was shoot. I would not mind doing it again but over here you need a licence - the criteria of which is very very strict, you have to be in a club, or own a farm, you have to have secure storage (which has to be inspected by a policeman) there are rules for tranportation, ammunition, ranges. The cost is also prohibitive making it a wee bit out my league, so most like me don't bother

Still theirs always paintball

Carrying in the US usually stimulates conversations on both extremes right and left. It would be nice if it could be looked at from the middle. If you were trained in the military and if you have no psychological or criminal back round carrying should be legal. Of course back round checks as well. The Police cannot be every where all the time. JMOP

I could not agree with you more Lee, everything over here is a knee jerk reaction. They take the extreme actions of a very minor section of the population and apply the sanctions to everybody.

I exist in a civilisation where a firearm is easily availible to the criminal on the street but if I were to injure or kill said criminal as they were comitting an offence on my property I would be the one they cart off to jail.

Its insane.....................if I wasnt too old I'd emigrate and I am a son of Scotland and a proud Brit but I weep when I see what is becoming of my country.

Sorry mate a wee bit of a rant, I did'nt mean for it to turn this way. Maybe I need a gun range to work off this agression

I'm taking the wife back to NYC next year so I'll look into getting a range then.
