Nelson, BC RAT Raid

As July is almost upon us what are people's plans for the trip to Nelson?

I am leaving Wed July 17th AM from the Surrey area and meeting up with one other on the way so far.

Some from Island RAT plan to overnight Wed in Princeton and head up from there.

The hotel is fully booked so there must be some plans being made....

Hyw 6 Road Work!!!

Heads up: Hyw 6 Vernon to Needles ferry will be under construction during RAT Raid

Looks like most of the construction will be Spruce Grove to Angel Falls but there will also be construction outside Vernon at Coldstream Ranch where the highway crosses the train tracks.

Looks like we will be taking the southern route, Kelowna to Rock Creek on Hyw 33 then through the Boundary Country on Hyw 3.

I'm not 100% sure we're heading down - but Calgary riders are welcome to join - leaving DT about 3:30 - going South on 22 then 3 to the 6. Just tenting and being unwashed in town.

Hwy 6 Lumby to Needles

For those of you who haven't left yet, I rode from Vernon to Nelson today on Hwy 6. There was about 4 miles total under construction, and two flaggers. Maximum total wait time would be around 10 minutes. The bummer is that if you get stuck at the end of the line that is being led by two Wreckreational vehicles, you chances of getting around everyone isn't real good until you hit a 3 lane section about 15 miles later. If you can stand the frustration it won't slow you down that much, and it is still a beautiful road, and if you are at the head of the line you own it.

Thanks for the info! We've been trying to find out how bad it was.
We are leaving from Vernon tomorrow and the southern route to Rock Creek and then down Hyw 3 is a bit of a detour for us. Also, Boundary Country is know to get friggen' HOT.

Might just take Hyw 6 afterall.

Live report! Made it in exactly the google map recommended time. A few pints before bed. The trip in was good - Moose spotted near Jaffray - the last hour was in the dark and the BC curves are pretty mysterious without daylight. More tomorrow...

Day 2 + 3

Kaslo to New Denver was a genius decision for the poker run, a truly organic er orgasmic hmmm - great road!
The banquet was awesome - great food and good company.
Danny was excellent - in and working while the RAT's were taking over. Get well soon Danny.
The trip home was pretty uneventful, note to BC the 93 in Invermere needs passing lanes! Thanks to all the organizers - a great RAID!

A special thanks to Mike & Barb of Island Rat and Peter & Paula from Western Rat for their hard work.

I met great people from both other provinces and the US of A. I look forward to next year. Lots of riding, good chit chat and a few libations made for a good time.

I have posted a bunch of photos from the trip taken when I wasn't dodging pylons or passing Harleys.

For some more images from the trip go to westernrat.org and navigate to the Photos page.

Now you'll have to excuse me as I have to change the ice pack I am sitting on. Did I mention it was a very long ride home?

Cheers,

Ted

Nelson RAT Raid

I too would like to thank Mike, Barb, Paula, Peter, Vern, and everyone involved in the organization of this Raid! It was fantastic. And lets not forget Danny and the staff at the New Grand Hotel, they made our stay that much better.

It was great to meet new people, share a few laughs and drinks, and to check out the many Triumph's on hand! The roads weren't too bad either!

I'll be back next year.

Cheers!
