Powder Coating Sticker Shock

I'm rebuilding a 68 Bonnie. I just called around a few Powder Coaters in the Ottawa, Ontario area for a quote to do my frame, Oiltank, Side cover, Forks and a handful of other brackets and bits and was told it would be between $500 and $650.
Ouch... I feel a bit abused!
Now I'm leaning more towards getting some Dupont Imron and painting everything instead of powder coating.
Is this price too high? Suggestions? Imron experts?

imron vs powder coat

Those powder coating charges don't seem all that out of line. Imron or any other of the two-part paints are pretty expensive as well. I prefer a paint, like Imron for flat surfaces. It has a smoother finish.

You have to be really careful spraying Imron and the like as you can very easily develop a sensitivity to them. A particle mask won't cut it.

I used to be a rep for Dupont with NAPA Canada. Imron is really great stuff but like any polyurethane, deadly. You need a good mask and a good gun. It is really tuff but it is expensive as well.

When you consider how much you are powder coating and how much prep they have to do to make the coating stick, it seems inline.
