[quote='[]*[];968626']Good luck getting them to sell to you. Keep in mind that even if you get them to sell to you, you won't get the best deal.

As for cost of import, I had estimated about $650 to $800 if I was to go and pick a bike up (about same distance as you have to travel). You can probably add $500 if you plan on having the bike shipped to you.

Depending on the bike you are looking at you might get a better deal if you buy Canadian. The Speedmaster is $2300 more expensive in Canada but the Bonneville is $1,400 to $1,700. So, you might save $1,000 buying a Speedmaster you will only save $100-$400 buying a Bonneville. It doesn't seem worth all the trouble for the Bonneville, especially if you are able to get the dealer to knock a little off the price or even throw in some upgrades or a helmet.[/QUOTE

It certainly is not worth it for a g -note, way more hassle than it would be worth. And I would not do it for 1000.00.
I will always shop local first when possible and give them first crack at my business, but if the dollars and cents don't match up. then ya got to do what you got to do. I am trying to get some more accurate shipping quotes together .
I have found a dealer that will sell to Canada and according to him he is interested in getting more business from the great white north. I will be factoring in every penny as to have as close to accurate numbers as i can with out actually purchasing . I will post my findings when I get all the numbers in. I am more curious than anything now . In the end as long as I get what i want and get riding, a couple bucks here or there aren't even going to cross my mind after the first set of twisties.

Now that I have read more posts this thread seems kind of redundant. I cant get over the amount of information on here. Bakwheeltango had a real informative importing bikes post. Which is what I found out with the phone calls today. Still want the black 07 sprint if I can make it happen.

I agree with the supporting your local dealer thing, & all. But I`ve noticed a strange increase in the number of "nearly new" bikes for sale at Canadian dealers that list the odometer reading in miles.
I wonder where these bikes came from !.

Only one bike I saw was at a Triumph dealer. Many were at HD dealers, & quite a few at Japanese dealers.

So I guess it`s ok if they use their buying power & import knowledge to make abit extra. But if you want to save a few $$$, you`re some sort of traitor to motorcycling in Canada.

I`ll still buy local, & usually buy used. But I can see why others might get the best deal they can, over the border.

It`s like the "domestic" car companies suggesting you should not buy imports. All the while they`re having their products assembled with offshore made parts. If not totally built off shore, with their badging put on `em ! .

CMG Online did an article about USA vs. CDN pricing not long ago. The just published a follow-up to the original article on the price shifting that's happened, if any... ahmen.. Honda...

Original:
http://cmgonline.com/magazine/index....=154&Itemid=57

Follow-up:

http://cmgonline.com/magazine/index....=462&Itemid=57

Other than some minor changes(except BMW, average 17% drop in prices) most vendors seem to have opted for factory incentives.

Thanks for the follow up article Ridergeek.
One thing worth pointing out, the CDN price of the Speedmaster and Bonneville bikes is between 25%-30%.

Here is another article worth reading.

http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...25/075860.html

"Retail sales of Harley-Davidson motorcycles increased 17.4 percent in the Company's international markets during the fourth quarter of 2007 compared to the fourth quarter of 2006. Fourth quarter retail sales increased 10.9 percent in Europe; Canada was up 45.9 percent; and Japan was up 4.5 percent. All other international markets combined were up 28.6 percent."

Harley Davidson sales in Canada were up 45.9% in the 4th quarter of 2007.
Judging by the number of 2007 bikes still on sale in the Triumph dealerships I would assume that Triumph Canada hasn't seen that kind of sales increase.
I guess lowering prices works better than intimidating the US dealer into not selling to Canadians.

One thing you have to remember is that Triumph doesn't allocate many bikes for Canada, only about 2700 bikes annually out of the 40,000 made. Alot of bikes get brought up from the US for that reason, they don't sell as fast in Harley Town and up here the demand is getting to outweigh what they ship. That 2700 also is all models so really if the Daytona is hot this year Canada may only get 200 shipped here because that 2700 has to extend over the whole line of bikes.

Well I guess higher prices is one way to keep the demand down.

My reply when I contacted a triumph dealer in the US about buying a T100.

"Thank you for your information requests. Unfortunately Triumph will not
allow us, as a U.S. dealer to sell to Canadian residents. They are no
longer providing the necessary documentation to take the bike across the
border."

That nightster is looking more and more interesting.

I contacted a dealer in MD called Clinton Cycles they have a bike I was interested in , no problem with shipping to Canada at all , they will provide all necessary paperwork to export the bike. However I have not had a reply back yet regarding warranty and whether or not there would be any confusion or problems honoring it in Canada. The dealer is hot to sell but I am not getting my answers quick enough. OTD Price on the 07 is sprint st w/abs is 11147.00 with all documentation + one add on a axel nut cover worth $75.00 . Black which is not available this year, which is a drawing card for me. However I am looking at 1200.00 worth of freight $208 riv, gst and then the inspection costs which are around 200 bills apparently. The exchange rate has jumped aw well and I am sure there is always other hidden costs. I am still a bit at odds of whether it is worth it or not . Oh yeah still trying to make sure the proper insurance is on it for shipping , one shipper will cover upto a maximum of 7000.00 then you have to purchase extra coverage to equal the purchase value etc. I believe it is 7.00 per 1000.00 extra another little thing but they are starting to add up. Even flying there and riding back doesnt seem like it would save anything it seems all the dealers end up being on the east coast for me. Just another potential benefit from living in the hub of Canada I guess . I ahve found a lot of deals on other stuff but they always seem to be on that side of the country. California is not all that close for me as well. Oh well. the saga continues , one way or another there will be a couple new wheels sitting in garage this summer. That you can take to the bank!!!
