Importing parts from the UK

Hey all,

Anyone imported any parts from the UK?

I'm in need of a new fork tube and it's less than 1/2 the price of local if bought from Sprint Mfg in the UK. I've been stung by customs in the past and I'd prefer to have a ballpark estimate on import costs (tax, duty etc) before I commit. Any help would be great.

Cheers!

I did some research and got help from a few chaps on here (thanks fellas) and found out that:

a. Parts are cheaper in the UK by almost 1/2 (after delivery) on some parts;

b. If the UK distributor has the parts in stock, it seems to takes less time to get them to your door (on average) than most Canadian dealers who order them; and

c. Bike parts, regardless of where they came from, are duty free (pay tax only).

In my case a TBS fork tube was $445 local plus tax = $511 Cdn, from the US it's $345 plus delivery and tax = $413.50 Cdn and from the UK it's $301 Cdn tax and delivery in.

I'm ordering the thing this week, I'll let you know how everything goes.

Mototwin Retro Racer seat

I bought a Retro Racer seat from mototwin for 188 gbp. Mototwin soaked me 50 gbp for shipping, and I paid $40 customs duty and gst. Won't do it again unless I have to. To make things worse, while the seat is a beauty, it raises ride height 1/2 inch, while it was supposed to drop it instead - no good for this short rider. Now it is a very expensive garage ornament.
