street racing law

Hey Ontarians: What's with this new street racing law - 50km over the limit? They showed a motorcycle on the news going 240k on the highway. Bonni

Coming to a province near you.

50km/h over the posted limit and they can, at a police officers discretion, take away your license AND your car/bike AND crush it!!!! Completely at the discretion of a policeman who thinks you might have been speeding.

Buying some performance parts for your car or bike? No problem, they can now take your car or bike and put it in the crusher, because you might race with it.

In Ontario you now have more rights if you commit a crime with a gun than if you drive at 50km/hr over the posted limit!!!!!!

I'm in absolute agreement with this law, most riders are not competent enough to be riding at 150km/hr and you throw in traffic as a variable and the possibilities of a catastrophic mess are huge.
My problem has been and continues to be the issue of being found guilty before a trial is set. I haven't heard of any instances where Ontario's finest have crushed any motorized vehicles before an individual is found guilty in front of a court of law, but should it come to this, then I have a serious issue of the police being judge and jury.

I find it hard to believe that if a cop saw My can (which is aftermarket) he can crush my bike because it might be used to race...if they were going to do that they should just sit outside Good Times center and crush every sport bike over 600cc as they can be used to race right of the line..

Now there's even less chance of getting a Triumph dealership in T.O.! I am from Toronto but I think I'll stay in B.C. Bonni

Exclamation

I agree with AceT100. Street racing is reckless and stupid. If somebody gets caught they deserve to pay for it. Maybe not as far as getting their bike crushed but maybe the new law will make people think twice before putting their lives or others at risk. I'm not saying everybody street races but I feel there is no need to drive 50km over a posted speed limit. Unfortunately street racers hurt everybody in the long run by causing higher insurance costs and the negative public opinion of motorcyclists in general.
