As we are now well into August, and the date of our Brockville Raid is fast approaching, I thought you would appreciate the following August update.
CALABOGIE RAID REPORT
We had our first Ottawa RAT Pack ride on Sunday June 24th and although Mother Nature kept us guessing until the last moment, it turned out to be a sunny day. Ten motorcycle riders showed up, including two with passengers, which brought the total to twelve participants. As is typical of a first outing our departure time was a little behind schedule but we got rolling at around 11 :00 am (versus 10:30). We rode to Calabogie through Pakenham, a route that was modified at the last moment in the intent of having a more picturesque scenery.
Lunch at the Highland Golf Resort was pleasant but I truly believe that the return ride to Ottawa on Highway 511 was the highlight. This winding road leaves you with amazing flashbacks for a week!
A big “Thank you!” to the Ottawa Good Time Centre for providing us with coffee and complimentary T-Shirts. Another “Thank you!” is also due to Corey who had brought his camera and took the pictures which I will attempt to attach to this update once I have reduced them to the appropriate size for the web site.
BROCKVILLE RAID – SATURDAY, AUGUST 11th
As you may know, our Brockville ride had been scheduled for Saturday, July 28th but was later postponed to August 11th due to the inclement weather (rain). Note that the above mentionned date is this coming Saturday! As previously indicated, we will be heading to Brockville through the rural highways. Departure time will be 10:30 a.m. (Sharp!) at the Ottawa Good Time Centre (OGTC) and for this reason we are asking riders to please arrive at the dealer at 10:00 a.m. Waivers will need to be signed and it would be nice to have this done prior to 10:30.
A few stops are planned along the way but we would ask you to please fill your tank prior to arriving at the Ottawa Good Time Centre. There are a few gas stations around Hunt Club Rd. and Merivale Rd. including a Shell on the corner across the street from the dealer. It would be nice to ride at least 100 k.m. prior to our first stop.
Lunch will be at Bud’s on the Bay in the Marina area of Brockville. Again, as I will need to make reservations, I will need to know the number of riders who are planning to ride. I have been advised that there will be a Boat Poker Run on the same day and that the restaurant could be a little busy. It should however make for a fun stop as the restaurant has a beautiful view of the Brockville Bay Marina (
www.budsonthebay.com/patio.htm ).
If all goes according to plan, the ride is expected to end around 4:00 or 4:30 p.m. in Ottawa at the OGTC.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8th RIDE
As the Brockville Ride has been postponed from July 28th to August 11th, the August 25th ride has been re-scheduled to September 8th. The destination for this ride has yet to be determined but a few suggestions have trickled in. As we did during our Calbogie Ride, we can talk about a possible destination during our lunch break in Brockville or at the next Wednesday night gathering.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT MEETS
Tomorrow (August 8) is our first of two August Wednesday Night Meets. For those who have yet to come out, we meet on every two weeks on Wednesday nights in the parking in front of the Clock Tower Pub. It is located immediately south of the Queensway on Bank Street. Note that two weeks ago, we met in the pub parking lot, as there were a few empty spots. Meeting time is set for 7:00 p.m. but a few usually show up a little earlier to take advantage of the menu specials that end at 7:00 p.m.
There are only two other Wednesday night meetings left for the summer, therefore we encourage you to all come out if you can. Although we may ad one or two depending on the interest, the following dates are the last of our summer Wednesday Night Meets:
- August 8th
- August 23rd
- September 5th
Looking forward to seeing you at the planned events!
