Since we receive so little dealer/club support for RAT in Edmonton would anyone be interested in joining/starting up a one ton club here? Not too much commitment...just maybe a spirited weekday evening ride every other week followed by a drink at a local pub (hey, darts anyone?). It may be too late in the season this year but I would be definately be willing to be involved/loosely organize something for next year.

Alberta Ace-holes, ton up or shift out!

The idea sound great.. should organize it more for weekend rides so those of us farther away can join in to the rides. I have noticed that Blackfoot rat also drops the ball..

I am from way down south here in Lethbridge.

Talk to these guys:
Ton Up Club

I post as "ALvis" over there.
You do not want to use the Ton-Up name without approval.

I wonder what would be involved with setting up an Alberta Ton-Up Club?

Let us look into it for next season. My only aversion to a weekly weekend ride would be that I usually go camping with the fam every weekend in the summer (the Nelson Raid and Heritage days have been the only weekends this summer that I haven't spent in the Rockies). I'm sure that I could spare one weekend a month to devote to a Triumph "ton up" overnight hostel adventure though...

Greaser, isn't "Ton Up" a term perpetrated by the Ace Cafe and the old days of cafe racers? Is there an actual international organization that we would be seeking approval from in order to utilize "Ton Up?" I will investigate this over the winter months.

Yes there is. That is why I included the link to the Ton Up site.

There is a chapter in Vancouver. As far as I know there are no chapters in Alberta.

Ton Up CLub Charter:
The Ton Up Club originated in 1998 in Texas, the creation of Larry Reiter (who now heads up Ton Up San Diego). Ton Up Club Vancouver was founded in 1999, and with the folding of the Texas chapter in about 2001, we are the oldest continuous chapter. We also have the largest membership with some 15 core members and approximately 10 more associates. Other chapters have since been awarded charters in San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, North Carolina, Indianapolis, Wisconsin, New Jersey and Chicago.

The Official TON UP CLUB Charter

"Philosophy of the Club:
The Ton Up Club was founded on the idea that classic bikes were built to be ridden not just polished and stared at. It’s also based on the Rocker culture of England in the 1960’s, which was strongly influenced by American outlaw biker culture of the 1950’s and the movie The Wild One.
It’s really all about hanging out with your mates, riding your bike to the café (bar) and rock 'n' roll.

Requirements for membership:
1. Must believe in the club philosophy
2. Must have a motorcycle that either is a café racer, is built in the spirit of a café racer or is at least ridden with that attitude.

Rules:
1. No “Cruiser” motorcycles allowed. Period. No exceptions. If you want to be in our club then get a cool bike.
2. No modern sport bikes. A Ducati Monster is cool, but not a Ducati 996. A Honda CB400/4 will work, but not a Kawasaki Ninja. Get it?
3. There are no real officers in the club. All events are put on by members of the club as a group. We don’t want to start having meetings about meetings.

Important:
The name “Ton Up Club” and any version of that name, the spade logo and any version of that logo and any content of the charter Ton Up Club web sites are the sole property of the club founders and can not be used without permission of said founders or their representatives.

We just want to keep it about cool bikes, cool beers and having a good time without any wankers."

Although it looks like most the clubs are city-oriented, there are some state-wide ones listed, so maybe an Alberta chapter would be viable. I am in Edmonton and I wonder how many others would be interested just in this city. I know I feel pretty "alone" riding around here on a Thruxton, with all the rice rockets and cruisers. I can't remember the last time I actually saw another cafe style bike. FelixLeiter, I imagine your Speed Triple would fit the charter, although you're a bit more of a hooligan than a cafe!

In their day cafe racers/rockers were definitely considered to be hooligans! :moon:
