Melbourne protest ride

Is anyone planning on going to the protest ride on the 5th? It would be a good chance to catch up (aside from the protest itself). The protest is against the toll being charged to bikes on Eastlink. They will also be collecting signatures against the TAC levy being charged to bikes and the front number plates. If they can think of a few more things, they'll probably include those too.

The assembly area will be the Doncaster Park & Ride - Melway reference Map 46 K1. It's virtually empty on a Saturday. It's left out the gate. A few metres and left onto the Eastern Freeway which becomes the Eastlink toll road. Very safe. Eastlink opens Sunday, June 29. There is a toll free period of a month.

At noon riders will proceed to Frankston at 10 kph under the speed limit. Probably 90 kph most of the trip. The distance will be around 60 kms. The destination is the Fankston Civic Centre in Davey Street. - Melway reference map100A C9. There will be no road tolls and no entry fees or registration. A bucket collection will help defray costs.

Yep

Yep...I'm going with my son Jordan on the back.
I'm meeting up with the victorian RATBAGS at around 10:30am at the Doncaster park and Ride. Should be a good turn-out and hopefully I can go the distance, I'll be testing my pain threshold...just got out of hospital after having my gaul bladder removed.

The ride turned out great. I agot to Doncaster about 10:45 and I reckon there were about 1000 or so there already. From then til 12 there was a steady stream coming in and I would say a conservative estimate would be around 3000 in total. The Park n ride was chocka block. One news channel had it at 5000 and Channel 9 said a few hundred turned up. The media reports were disappointing and Sundays Herald Sun didn't even mention it.

I met up with a couple of the Ratbags and rode with them. I think the organizer underestimated the turnout cos there was a sausage sizzle at Frankston... One BBQ and nowhere near enough snags. Good weather tho.
The pic was taken about 10:50 am with over an hour to go before departure time.
