Sad news - Alan Hales R.I.P.
For all those that can remember him, some info from the Clubman Tourers group and other MCC of NSW delegates. (My apologies for pinching the text - I hope the author's don't mind me reprinitng it here).
The Passing Of A Champion With A Passion For Motorbikes
Popular former local businessman Alan Hales was killed in a motorcycle crash on the Old Pacific Highway on Saturday afternoon (17/11).
Mr Hales, 61, was riding his motorbike with a group of friends at Mooney
Mooney about 2pm when he apparently lost control of his bike on a left bend
and hit the steel railing.
He suffered extensive injuries in the crash and died at the scene.
Mr Hales ran a successful motorbike dealership in Brookvale for many years, specialising in Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki motorbikes, but retired to the Central Coast about 20 years ago.
Mr Hales was also a successful motorbike racer who won the famed Castrol Six Hour Race at Amaroo Park in 1979 and at one point held the lap record at almost every circuit in the country.
In recent years Mr Hales became the linchpin of an informal group of
motorbike riders in their 50s and 60s who regularly ride together.
Mr Hales was also a keen snow skier, water skier, windersurfer and equestrian.
Friend and fellow motorbike enthusiast, John Dayhew, of Manly, said Mr
Hales' death had shocked his friends.
"He was a really good guy and a very popular person. Everyone who met him was immediately a friend. He was the most upbeat and enthusiastic person you'd ever meet.''
Mr Hales is survived by his wife Adele and son Jamie.
The funeral will be on Friday 23.11.07 at 12 noon, held at;
Greenway Memorial Gardens
460 Avoca Drive Green Point
(near Kincumber)
Those who wish to ride to the funeral are welcome to do that. Riders are
meeting at the Pie in the Sky at 10am this Friday morning, before traveling
up to Green Point.
From James Dawson:
Very sad, Indeed.
I knew Alan quite well as he was always at The Road Warrior cafe (Mt White), usually with John and his wife Adele. Alan was always friendly and approachable. When Jill was learning to ride, he was a very helpful and informative person, always offering encouragement. He rode several
Triumph Sprint Sts, one he launched into a tree on the Wollombi Road,
the bike being a complete write-off. He also rode several triumph
Daytonas and later moved onto a Fireblade (which he low sided at Turn 8
at Eastern Creek).
He loved the Triumphs and spoke highly of them not like most people
who like to give the pommy a bit of stick so naturally, I liked him!
I did a track day with him once and he passed Wayne Gardner (who was NOT impressed).
I haven't seen him for a while but Alan was a very nice person and will
be missed by many, many people.
A sad day, indeed!
Regards,
Biggles
A message to all that we have to be careful out there.
He will be missed.
