Bugger Wombats, Watch the Kelpies :(

Most of us Aussies have had a run in with a Kelpie/Heeler try chomping on us as we pass by, be it on a pushie or a m/cycle. Not just those breeds, as a kid I was munched on by a Doberman, but the cattledog has developed a fearsome reputation as a snapper.
This morning on a ride with my 12 yr old son through the hills, we both noticed a brown blur makin' a beeline at us from the bush. Did the slowdown, but still hit him doin' 50, well, he hit us.
Got me on the brake foot, bending the piston caliper, and pushing the caliper guard into the gear cover, snapping the weld. Prick !!
Rode 30 kms back home with the rear brake on, probably up for new pads now as well.
A few bevvies to settle the demeanor, and I'll go out and assess the situation a bit more clearly.
On the plus side, the boy now understand's the dangers riding m/cycles can throw at ya and better yet, lives to tell another story, something else us Aussies are good at , besides survival.

I remember the last time I put a ride on you went on the wrong day and then scored a punctured tyre - and now you've been head-butted by a Kelpie.

At least you come up with interesting and unusual excuses

All jokes aside, I'm glad you and your son aren't hurt and I hope you get the bike sorted without too many hassles.

Cheers,

Keef

Glad I keep you amused keef, did you have a ride on today

Bike'll be sweet by the 5th aug, mate.

OMMC, tough lil' bugger gave a yelp and took off back into the bush to plot his next move. We outsmarted him and came back a different way

Course, we nearly got cleaned up by Marni from True Blood on the way home, but that's another story

No - No ride today, Lunch at Cicerello's in Mandurah then went to watch the Batman movie to celebrate my Son's birthday.

We're joining a Ulysses ride tomorrow. We'll be joining the ride at the first stop at Byford Bakery, then pulling out around 11 to head via the dams/weirs/Mundaring to Gidgegannup for lunch.

Well, went and watched me boys kickarse in jnr footy, that got me in a good frame of mind.
Checked the damage, grabbed a shifter, used a pushie tube as a cushioning, then proceeded to do a bit of push and pull, and Hey Presto....... Rear brake fubctioning

Next step tomorrow, ride/brake test.

Fingers crossed, Schmickey Poo

I had a bullie x come out at me on the way to work last year .He was going straight for my foot so I didn't have many options but to kick him in the head at about 30kph .
The result was he went arse over in a big way and when I got to work ,my foot was like a balloon .The plus side of this is I havent seen the dog since .

There was a dog near me where I grew up, most placid beast, but as soon as a bicycle or motorbike went past, she turned into this raging psychotic beast. Her owner and I worked out it was spoked wheels.

She did cop a Caterpillar size 13 to the head a few times on the way past... didn't stop her.

A mate I had years ago, owned a Blue Cattle dog called Fred that would only bite when you put the bike into gear.

You could mount the bike. It would sit there happy as Larry watching.

You could start it up, it'd wag its tail.

Put my helmet on, Fred couldn't care less.

you could rev it, no worries.

you pull in the clutch, it would slightly cock its head but but no dramas.

but as soon as you'd click it into first, whammo! it'd latch onto your calf

First time it happened I shut down the bike as I was in pain and got off.

My mate said he was terribly sorry but it wouldn't happen again, something just spooked him, he never normally bit anyone.

So I went through the same ritual, mount, start, helmet back on, clutch in, then... gear in and whammo! bugger latched back onto my leg!

I still always get nervous around Blue Heelers and motorbikes.
