Oil Changes

Just had my first service done on my 08 Bonny.

Log book says next one not due intil 10,000 Km which I think is a bit excessive. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best oil brands and types to use if I want to do some intermediate changes myself. Also should I consider changing the filter and if so, do I need any special tool to get it off?

Thanks for your advice.

Hey Trumpie.

I've just bought myself a 2001 Sprint RS, and the recommended oil is a synthetic like Mobil 1 4T Oil.

As buckoz says, the fresher the oil in your engine, the better, but I did 2000km this past weekend and I would probably change my oil and filter every 5000.

At the moment I'm looking for a reasonably priced supplier of both filters and oil - the good synth oil is around $80/4l.

Ramjet.

Hey buckoz

Where can a avaerage joe buy a drum of engine oil from???
It would be a better value to buy in bulk, Also would engine oil deterrate/degrade over time like petrol???

the importer, they will at least tell you if they stock it ( they might not sell direct to you ) and they will tee it up with your nearest dealer , oil will last if it is free of contaminates so make sure the drum is kept clean and sealed back up properly to stop mosture

For run-in period I'm using Motul 3100 mineral.
Oil change 1500km, oil & filter 3000km(just done).
5000km over to Motul full synth plus filter change.

I also use this 1/2" drive MCS filter removal tool.....
