Adelaide dealer for 6000km service

Hey gang,

Being from Brisbane I have no idea on dealers in Adelaide. I am leaving in a couple of weeks on a motorbike trip to Adelaide (well Victor Harbour) and I will tick over the 6000kms when I am near to Adelaide.

Anyone from Adelaide wanting to recommend a dealership for the 6000km service.

May also need some new tyres but will have to play that by ear a little. I am unsure on how long a set of stock Bridgestones will last me. This trip will mostly be bombing down highways to Victor Harbour. I will be looking to change over to Pilot Powers, but it seems a waste to do 3000kms on Powers straight up the highway on the way back. At least there will be very little edge wear for when I get back to Brisbane and start banging round the twisties again. he he..

Thanks,
Angus.

Angus, there isn't much to the 6000Klms service, basically an overall check and an oil change. Any Triumph dealer in Adelaide would be able to do that for you (I'd book it in though).

There's NO way that I'd put Pilot Powers on your bike for the trip home. Go for the Pilot Road 2 as the middle has harder compound and the sides are the same as Pilot Power material.

You should still have your round profile *and* your soft edges for the twisties around Brisbane when you get home.

Thanks Linz. Bike is booked in to Peter Stevens for the 6000km service.

I talked to the tyre guy there and he repeated what you said: it would be a shame to put Powers on for the highway trip home so they have a set of Road 2's sitting aside in case I need them.

I really have no idea on tyre usage on this bike as I have only had it 2 months. Will see how tyres handle a fair bit of luggage and pillion. Pillion causing the fair bit of luggage. I will be packed into one pannier.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Is it the 4th September yet????

Hi Angus.

Your tyre usage at the rear will depend on how heavy handed you are on the throttle and tyre pressures if you're carrying a pillion. If your combined weight plus gear and luggage exceeds 220Kg, I'd run about 37 front and about 44 rear.

If you find the bike understeering a little, add a pound or two more.

My Pilot Power on the front just just over 10,000Km's but it was really "gone" about 1000Km earlier as it just didn't want to steer well despite having usable tread. My Pilot Power rear got about 5500Km with one-up riding only (but I'm a big guy).

The Pilot Road 2 on the rear now, has over 5,000Km on it and it looks like it has another 3,000Km if I'm lucky, maybe more.

Thanks a lot for the info Linz. I have a feeling that the back may need replacing on way back from Adelaide. If I can use the stock front Bridgestone until back in Brisbane and then throw a Road 2 or Power on the front, and not waste it on the road back to Brisbane.

On the other hand, I am thinking about hopping across the Great Dividing Range all the way back to Brisbane so wouldn't really be wasting a Road 2 front on the way back.

Not swapping the front will save me $250 odd dollars, so that is a slight consideration only. Safety is way more important than $250.

So it will really depend on condition of tyres in Adelaide. Luckily the Sprint's stock tyre combination is a lot more readily available than the M109's 130 front and 260 rear tyre. I should be able to swap over to a new tyre fairly easily on the way back.

Thanks for the info Linz. You've been very helpful

Angus.
