Triumph sets new US sales record
Triumph sets sales mark for U.S. market
June 2008 sales up 17% from last year
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Aug. 01, 2008
Triumph Motorcycles America recorded its best retail sales month in June with 1,536 units sold, despite a struggling economy.
The British company’s previous best month was May 2007 which saw 1,445 units leave American showrooms. June sales were up 17% from the same month in 2007.
Triumph’s sales were driven by the popular Street Triple and the Speed Triple. Other models such as the Thruxton and the Bonneville T100 were also popular with American consumers.
The sales record occurred a month before Triumph released its 2009 model line-up, and the company predicts its new models will contribute to further growth.
The Street Triple proved to be a hit with American consumers in June.
“Consumer interest in Triumph’s products has never been stronger,” says Jim Callahan, marketing manager of Triumph Motorcycles (America) Ltd. “With the announcement of the Triumph Thunderbird and several new model updates at the recent Global Dealer Conference, we anticipate this growth trend to continue as the new model range will generate additional traffic throughout our dealership network.”

Congratulations!!! I am excited for this news.
The new cruiser, while hated just might help Triumph state side. Even if it doesnt, as the article said, more traffic in the shops means more units sold!!!!

Dealerships
I would love to see some new dealerships or some old ones re-open. The closest to me is over 200 miles. There used to be one less than an hour away. Sure would make my decision to buy a new Tiger a lot easier. :

Congrats to Triumph, job well done. But (there's always a "but"), why don't I ever see any? I have a small farm in North/Central Illinois - #1 Farm Country, corn, soybeans et al - and ride most every night I can, and for certain every Saturday and Sunday. Great roads (for Illinois) round here, all the way up to Wisconsin. Thus far - zero local sightings. I'd have a better chance of seeing Elvis than a Triumph around here. I have to go up to Janesville to see my buddies in the shop at Team Triumph. The best!
What do I see every day? Harleys, Harleys, Harleys, harley clone, harley clone, Harleys, Harleys. Hundreds of them, every day, every Saturday and Sunday. And the second-hand market here is flooded with low mileage cruiser clones that owners found they didn't quite know how to ride. You can pick them up a dime a dozen.
That time consuming tirade aside, why on earth would Triumph, knowing that the Street Triple and Speed Triple style bikes are selling well, along with the great and iconic Bonneville, why would they consider entering the Harley Clone arena with the T-Bird 1600? Why not focus on making the existing models better, more reliable, more power, better mileage, etc.
This will be interesting to watch.

I am from west-central Illinois myself and I couldn't agree with you more. I would prefer to buy a used 07-08 tiger from a private seller to save a little $. However, finding one in this area is next to impossible. The classifieds are loaded with nothing but Harleys. My closest Triumph dealer is now in Dubuque, IA (200 miles away). The most convenient dealer in Pekin no longer sells Triumph (not sure why, but probably has something to do with the tanking American $). I think with some much improved marketing and a better dealer support network that people might wake up : and realize there are some great bikes out there other than Harley/Harley clones. I hope Triumph will make these bikes more accessible by putting their product out there to compete with Harley. If I were Triumph I would start by opening up as many dealerships a I could, right across the steet from a Harley dealership :. A lot of people are paying a lot of money for the "Harley mystique" :. I think Triumph needs to create a little more of it's own. They have a great logo, clothing/gear line and I love the "go your own way" slogan. I think that pretty much sums up their unique style. Now they just need to let more people hear that sweet 1050 triple. :

Jamison,
Check these guys out.
http://www.rideteamtriumph.com/
It's a Triumph only shop, great guys, excellent mechanics, real people. It's also a nice ride to get there, through the countryside if you bypass the big slabs.
Slimey Crud gang runs twice a year, and racing outings at Road America.
Check the current inventories for used bikes, and I am sure they would cut you a good and fair deal.
Ride safe

I understand the no dealer close feeling, (also West-Central Illinois) I started riding Triumphs in 1998 (drove 5 hours to pick it up) and now own 4, plus have helped others decide to "Go Your Own Way" and ride Triumph. Once you ride it, you buy it and then another and another ect...
120 miles from RPM Motorwerks in Belleville, IL,(Triumph only shop)

They are great about shipping anything I need. If I make a run to the shop, I always make a day of it.
