Trippin' on Two Wheels

When the Sicily episode of Trippin’ on Two Wheels aired on SPEED on Sunday, March 9, it received the highest non-NASCAR viewership of the entire day! It even outscored MotoGP coverage by a factor of two.

Since there had been no promotion of this show by the network, these strong viewership numbers can only be attributed to the fact that you guys in the on line motorcycle community got behind this and helped us get the word out about the program. The Nielsen numbers also show that once viewers got there, they stayed thru the entire hour and then largely left again.

SPEED doesn’t know quite what to make of this, especially since Trippin’ is different than the typical “thrash & trash” programming that networks seem to think they need to throw out there in order to grab ratings these days. It’s hard for them to accept that people might actually watch a show just because it’s a good story. These programs are shot and edited more like short films than typical television shows, yet they seem to hold peoples’ attention. Surely this must be a fluke.

On the contrary tho, I believe that this shows that there is a desire for quality motorcycle programming on TV. And if you make it, motorcycle viewers will come. This is quality programming that shows motorcycling in a positive light. It’s the type of thing that our industry and our hobby needs. Please help us get the word out again for the third episode of this series; Aprilia Tuono R’s thru Spain! We need to demonstrate that this wasn’t just a fluke. Motorcyclists actually do want good TV!

***Below is a short PR blurb and a link to a video preview of the Spain episode.** *If you would like to embed this video directly on you own site. I have also included links that will allow you to pull it down in several different formats depending on what’s most compatible with your site.

*Trippin’ on Aprilia’s in Spain! Tune into *SPEED on *Sunday,* *April 20 at 11:00 am Eastern (8:00 am Pacific)*** to catch the third installment of */Trippin’ on Two Wheels/* and follow SPEED’s mustache maven, Dennis Gage, his teenage son, Sam, and motorcycle photojournalist, Neale Bayly, as they explore Spain on the Aprilia Tuono R’s. The combination of powerful bikes and dicey weather make for some interesting times on this one. You even get to see Neale throw one down the road. Oops! This is definitely must-see motorcycle TV. Don’t miss it and pass the word! (This episode will also air again on *Wednesday, April 23 at 2:00 pm Eastern (11:00 am Pacific)*). Click here to watch a special sneak preview:

I think the ratings might be actually higher than that. TW Cable in Charlotte has the Scotland show on Speed on demand so a lot of folks are watching it not in its scheduled time, heck I've watched it a couple of times now, GREAT show and I really look forward to future episodes.

And am I right is thinking theres a connection between a Charlotte RAT member and the show ???????

You are correct, sir. Neale Bayly is a motorjournalist, is the British speaking fellow that rides in and produces the show with Dennis Gage, and is a CharlotteRAT member. He owns a 1998 Triumph Daytona, and has a fondness in his heart for all things Triumph.

Thumbs up Trippin on Two Wheels

Thanks Scot for putting this up. It's important to all motorcyclists to be able to see a quality show like this one.

Great show. Someone posted about it in the biker hangout forum and when I looked on my directv it happened to be on!

I was lucky enough to catch it.

Reruns?

This show sounds great. Something I can watch with the wife. Anyone know if SpeedTV is planning on rerunning the first two episodes?

Since I don't watch Speed can someone tell me what type of programing the term “thrash & trash” refers to?

Yep, thanks for that post Cafetbird because now I know what "thrash and trash" TV is as well. It is definitely garbage TV, bad motorcycle PR and a few minutes of my life that I can't get back . I am glad I can't see shows like that as I dont have Speed TV in Oz.

The trailers for Trippin however look fantastic and I wish I could watch the full episodes, especially the Sprint ST episode in Scotland.

I also didn't mind the Twist the throttle episodes on Discovery Turbo. They just need to do a story on Triumph!

I guess I now know why I don't watch Speed. I'd like to see a show like Top Gear, only focusing on motorcycles instead.
