I had been watching Greg White hosting 2wheel Tuesdays on the SPEED Channel until it was replaced by "Superbikes" and I would like to share my thoughts on this.
First, kudos to Speed Channel. The weekly racing reruns are cool. And the AMA same day taped events are great. I really like the Australian Matt Mladin and watched him and other greats at the race track at Barber. Thrilling stuff there guys...much fun!
I'm living in Owensboro KY. home of the Haydens. I mistakenly thought that when Nicky comes home for a reprieve from his MotoGP racing schedule that he would be mobbed by throngs of local fans. Not so. He sits calmly in the Texas Roadhouse and has dinner with his family and participates in autograph signings at said restaurant occasionally. Our sports page only mentions his activities in as few words as the editor thinks are possible (with the exception of his winning the overall championship last year finally dethroning Rossi.), saving space for "important" things.
Today is Saturday and I am looking on the right column of the sports page squinting my old eyes to find the MotoGP lineup. The notice is for 3 races. The MotoGP 250 and when it will be shown on speed (1p.m.), the next race.....MotoGP world Championship and when it will be shown on Speed (2pm). And the MotoX championship.
The total size of the spot is approximately 5/8ths inch tall by 3 inches long for all this info.
Nascar however......3/4 of one page. Ugh...give me a break.
Regarding SPEED Channel, I cant stand that "In your face" crash and burn bull carp
of "Superbikes". Same old junk as usual. We all enjoy motorcycling right? Even as an avid motorcyclist, I can only stomach so much of that stunt riding junk. How many times can we be mezmorized by some tattooed squid doing a burn out till the tire blows then throwing the bike down and raising his arms in the air as if he had just done something spectacular? B-O-R-I-N-G!!
It is as obnoxious as that Harley worship show "American Thunder" on Speed Channel which sucked the chrome off those stupid tailpipes. Remember those scumbag losers with long hair and skull tattoes ex-con looking idiots? Seems anyone with a welder and a hammer and foul mouth was building "Custom" bikes and the TV camera loved every one of them. Oh yeah, lets not forget "The English Wheel" which every one of them had. Unique one-off designs.....To me, same old junk. "Biker Lifestyle?" Give me a break. Tell you what that gets you, just ask Billy. Billy Lane runs over a scooter in his Dodge truck and kills a the guy. The blood alcohol level of "Billy" David Lane was 0.192 percent. How about Indian larry? Of all of these types, I kinda had a soft spot for him. Indian Larry fell off his bike before a crowd of about 8,000 performing a stunt. He was not wearing a helmet. Now he's dead. What a senseless shame. Crazy stuff man......crazy.

Dennis Cage lives Evansville just across the river from me and he is the real deal. He loves all things we guys love and has been a really great promoter. Yep, he's kinda wormy but he is definately an advocate of motorcycling. I am very happy to see information about this program and I will definately tune in to watch.

It looks like this motorcycle show will be a good one. One that shows motorcycling in a positive light.

My comments/opinions are not meant to offend anyone. So dont be.

Actually, I actually agree with most of the above. I also was very disappointed when 2 wheel tuesdays ended. I tried Superbikes for a few weeks, thinking that if it replaced 2WT it must be a good thing. Not so much. A few episodes had some decent features, but mostly it was the motorized version of pop music, grab your attention but with no real substance.

The best point made so far, in my opinion, was the desire for a show like "Top Gear" but with a motorcycle basis. Top Gear is currently the only motorsports type show I record, and if you haven't seen it, I highly recomment it, on your local BBC America channel

Hopefully someone in the TV production business will catch on. I have a hard time believing that there aren't enough viewers to support good M/C programming.

what a good looking program - can't get it Down Under
That preview was soooo tantalising, for those of us outside the US who don't get to watch the program. Just from the preview it looks like a balanced approach with a modicum of hoonery suggested from the Brit guy's comments on the Tuono and what might be in store...

oh yes and I agree that the Scottish Sprint episode would be another must-see.

Hmmm........ "Top Gear" never heard of it. Sounds interesting. I'll do some searching and see what thats about. Maybe you satellite tv guys have access to this?

Oh yes I found it. Those 2 guys drive expensive cars and comment on them.
Yes actually I have seen it.
That would be a perfect format to use to evaluate motorcycles. Good idea.

Speed Channel Garbage
It is a shame that Speed has evolved into a Nascar + junk TV station. The Super Bike show is a prime example I gave it a chance when they were going cover the USA Gp last year not one bit of race coverage or rider interviews just bimbos and meatheads. They do not even cover the Isle of Man race on Speed! They took off the WRC races and most other bike racing. It is wild that the Outdoor Life Channel and ESPN 2 have better motocycle racing coverage!

A year or so ago I saw Gage’s Sicily trip (albeit abridged) on another show (can’t recall off hand, PBS’ motorweek mayhaps?) so I was pleasantly surprised to see it in it’s entirety on SPEED. Though I have not seen the trip on the Sprints… anyone know where I can catch that?

FWIW, Top Gear is replayed on BBCA in the states (rumour has it that James May is one of those responsible for SniffPetrol lol )

I agree that Speed has gone downhill. I used to thoroughly enjoy 2 wheel Tuesday, and certainly World Rally, I think those guys are insane. I never turn to speed anymore because they don't show anything of interest.
