Why is the Honda approx 20% heavier (150lbs) than the BMW? Loaded down with all the money you'd save?
I still like this Trophy as a touring bike and not, as others have mentioned, a commuter/daily.
They say prices in Jan and dealers in Sept so look for a full 14 more months of hype...

Prices in Sep bike in Jan, I've already put my deposit down. Anyone want an 08 Sprint?

Sell price in Australia in Aussie dollars
The price in Australia for the 2012 Triumph Trophy is stated as $27,990 in the latest "Australian MCN" mag.
Price here for the BMW R1200 RT SE is $30,990 as listed in the January edition of "Australian Road Rider".
As I susopectedTriumph have placed themselves just a bit less cost than the BMW they are clearly aiming at.
Just like the Triumph Explorer $21,790 against the BMW 1200 RGS (base model) at $21,952 AUD and the top model BMW R 1200 GSA at $26,950.
In Aussie the BMW base model K 1600 GT ABS $34,990, so this bike is in another whole different category IMO.
Cheers
Dave

After reading the replies I think some have missed the point complaining that they want a lighter less complicated touring bike. Triumph already offers that, it is the Sprint. This category of bike is not about light or agile. Its about comfort/distance + Gizmos/Gadgets with a hint of agility and not really about weight savings. I don't think sport touring really fits this class of bikes. It should be the reverse touring sports bike since the emphasis on all of these in this category is more on the touring 90% and less on the sport 10%. Maybe 80/20 even depending on the make/model.
There really isn't any true sport touring rides left. I would say you can either choose a BMW F800ST, VFR or a Sprint if you want new and thats about it. The new Ninja 1000 is also in the category if you want to ad a few aftermarket parts such as bags. But other then those you have to go used.
Personally I like the new Trophy and if I was in the market for this type of bike it would be on the short list if it handles well.

A reasonable position, Motard-Menace, well stated too. No real argument from me although I would say a Concourse or FJR is plenty sporty and still very available and not much different in "sportiness" from the Sprint. I have owned a Sprint, still own a Speed Triple and a FJR1300, and to me they are all very nimble and quick, with the only differences being minor in terms of sitting position and handlebar height. I think a good biker on an FJR could hang with a average biker on the Speedie, and certainly sport-tourers are very sporty compared to Harley cruisers. So maybe to me I would say 50-50 not 80-20 in categorizing these bikes. But this is a minor quibble I suppose.

It looks like a BMW touring bike a little. It looks very nice though.

Being a student of industrial design there are ways they could have done a better job than straight plagiarism! Honestly now.

Not crazy about the appearance or the physical bulk of the fairing. Running gear and technology is appealing though. I don't like the look of the BMW RT and this looks a lot like it pity !
