According to a 2008 NYTimes.com blog article, the average cost of a new bike in 2007 was in excess of $12,000. Considering the world economic climate of the past few years, there's not much reason to think bikes have become any less expensive. But all is not lost.

Bought a 2008 show room model Yamaha for 8,000 fully decked out in 2010. Purchased a 2012 T100 for 10,000, again, decked out. NYT don't know how to shop around.

I paid 8 for my Thrux with an Arrow pipe. It will run circles around just about all Hardley Ablesons and I don't have to dress funny to ride it! I think I'd rather ride an America over a Hog if I were into cruisers. I'm not just lippin, I've owned a few Hogs from a 69 Sporty to an E-Glide. I'll take my Triumph over any of them any day!

My only HD was a 69 sporty also...1st & last, just not me.

I'll take my 2012 America over any Harley, any day. My only "regret" is that there is very limited aftermarket support for them. We need to get more Americas and Speedmasters on the road. Maybe then companies will sit up and take notice.

Love my Triumph. I like HD as well, but don't really like the stigma that goes with it.

If I were into cruisers I pretty sure I'd think the Triumph fenders are way cooler/sexier. It just looks like it has a better flow from head to tail.

HD sells more of an image than a motorcycle today. The bikes are nice, but definatly not the only decent ride out there. IMO, they ruined the Sportster in 05 (I think) when they went to rubber mount. But I guess the real problem was trying to sell it as a woman's bike. The Sporty use to be a fun bike. But it has lost it's way. It has been replaced, IMO, by the America. Actually Triumph is about the only bike today that appeals to me the way HD's use to. Good bikes, Fun bikes, Made for riding, not polishing and bragging.

I bought a new 2007 Harley Davidson FXSTB Softail Night Train (did I leave a word out?), good bike, but not for me...After 8,000 miles I was still not feeling it, sold it...and the only thing I owned, or ever owned, that had the Harley Davidson logo on it was a pair of gloves my Mom bought me, and the Nigh Train, not even a t-shirt...oops bought a pair of HD boots for work once on clearance, well after I sold the bike though, I still have them, they honestly suck!

I have been eyeballing another Triumph for commuting, I can't make the commitment on another cruiser though!
