Prices in USA do not include state sales tax.
There is no federal sales tax. (Give them time!)

Maybe because Oz & NZ having significantly smaller populations = smaller turnover so increase retailer slice of the pie to justify staying in business? My 2c way of looking at it from another angle anyway.

I just bought a Storm about 2 hours ago. Paid 14k. Picking her up tomorrow. Won't be able to sleep tonight I'm sure. Riding from Central Pa. to Carolina Beach NC on Friday! Will post pics soon!

That's what I was thinking too. They can afford to sell for less in U.S. because they sell more of them. Also we're famous ( notorious? ) for our voracious buying habits, so not only a larger population, but a greater turnover of perfectly good bikes so we can ride the best, newest....blah,blah,blah....

Hey Vic, I for one would like a full report of the trip and evaluation of the bike. Sorry, don't mean to sound like an Editor, I'm just feelin' the itch for a new T-Bird and lookin' for input.

Eddie.

Our dollar is worth more than the US dollar so its even worse than it looks , Its mainly to do with buying power and what the market will bear I believe. You cant just import a bike, it has to meet Australian Design Rules and thats a matter of homogalation and having an importers license , way too expensive and difficult for an individual.

We get similar arguments on my gun forum all the time . We pay up to 50 % more for some American rifles and ammo .A lot of guys now buy items like scopes , bipods, range finders , hunting gear etc under $1000 over the internet and pay postage ( No Customs excise ) which ticks the shops and importers off no end . They wont honour warranties on any product privately imported online such as Leupold scopes etc. You have to have a Federal importers license to import actual firearms or ammo tho.
