made a powerlet adapter...

have only had my Tiger for a few days and love it...anyway am taking a ride today that a GPS would be handy on so I made a right angle powerlet to cigarette adapter, works great and does not interfere with riding. Used a bar mount lighter socket and clamped a powerlet plug in it and wired the two together...

Picked up a nail in my new rear tire. Lots of fun trying to stop when the rear end is flailing about. 60 to 0 in record time.....
Spent a few hours waiting for a tow and into the shop for a new tube. Cheaper than a new tire. I'm gonna have to learn to change a tube myself.

When you mount a tire use zip ties, waaay easier and it is nearly impossible to pinch a tube that way...also get a gallon of tire mounting lube from Napa Auto, that helps a lot too.
(I did not invent the zip tie method, learned it over at advrider...am completely sold on the method and have the zeal of the newly converted :chatterbox)

not really, you only need to carry six zip ties along with your tire irons. I used a tire mounting fixture I made in the picture but it is not essential, just makes the job a lot easier at home...it would definitely be a good idea to mount a few tires at home before you try it on the road though

New main stand

I've waited nearly a year for a main stand to come up for sale (on flea bay) to replace the messed up on my cat. Eventually one came up and it was reasonably local so I could collect and save on delivery.

Was supposed to be brand new unused but the guy had cross threaded one of the shouldered bolts on the RH mounting bracket. Other than that it was brand new/mint condition. Not a scratch and obviously not fitted fitted. Seller said it wouldn't fit with his after market zorst.

LH mounting plate that was completely knackered, usual loose shoulder bolts which affected the main stand.

New LH mounting bracket fitted stand lubricated and fitted - 20 minutes. Luckily RH bracket was absolutely fine. Good job or otherwise I'd be knackered as well.

Got genuine fitting instructions, will scan and copy to forum - might be of use to someone.

Oh and my new battery conditioner has worked a treat as well and with winter coming, everything should be fine.:):):):)

Nextjob - chain clean :(

I WISH!

You'd be amazed how little it takes to survive a 20 mile stretch at these temps. I'm using a Joe Rocket adventure type jacket that I wear year round with a lined shammy, t-shirt, and thermal undershirt. Bandanna to protect neck and chin, along with stop airflow around the collar. I have an extra pair of jeans one size too big, thermal underpants (only worn below 20f) and my regular year 'round Alpinstars waterproof boots. Down to 25f I wear Alpinstars wet weather gloves, below that I go over to a pair of goretex snowmobile gloves.

That said, at 12f, it my work was 25 miles away instead of 20, the game would change drastically. My fingertips suffer the last 5 miles when at my record of 6f. :D At those temps, I can feel the difference in one or two degrees and am hoping the much better heated grips and handguards of the 800 over my Ninja are going to allow me to push a little further.

Start out slowly, with just a vest or jacket, then add other items later. Sounds like you'd get a lot of use out of the stuff. With Gerbings you'll most likely have it forever. It may become outdated but it will still work. My dad has had the same stuff for about 10 years now and it still works like day one.

Railing ACH!

Rode my 800XC along Angeles Crest Highway yesterday. 350 miles and just about fully run~in. Bike was great @ altitude and a 50lb topbox. A few miles of the roadway were chipped. No damage to the radiator! (Can't say the same to the Kawi rider with us...):D

Today was the big day. The tiger has been sitting outside the grarage for 2 weeks now and i think the garage's current occupier ('98 RRW Modified FireBlade) has got used to seeing it. So tonight, after gently persudeing the Tiger through the open garage door and leaving the two of them face to face, i'm going to find out if they are going to fight or not.

New here - Here's what I have done....

Hi All!

I'm a new 800XC owner, all of 2 weeks now.

So here we go.

First, some background.

Been riding for 40+ years and have ridden almost everything. From 90cc Kawasaki, to (many) Harley's, to (2) BMW,s, including a GS, and the list goes on and on.

I test rode the 1200, loved it but decided the cost was more than I wanted to spend, but have to admit the bike was fantastic.

So, I bought the 800xc, without a test ride ... I've done this before, with some success, and some failure ...lol!

So far, I think I did great with this one!

Got the bike on Thursday, went away on business on Sunday, returned on Thursday, loaded the bike on the trailer and met friends a few hours away to spend the weekend riding, etc.

I didn't have time to do much to the bike, but I did the following:

Lowered it using soupy's links. This worked out great, but the kickstand they sent has the tab on the wrong side for the neutral safety switch, I am communicating with them now about the problem. Unfortunately "soupy" has left the country and they are lost without him it seems. I'm sure they sent the wrong one, but they can't seem to get it right, even after sending 8 pictures! One thing I don't like is the lack of a telephone number or address. They email, and that's okay, but it would be easier to talk to someone. More on this after they either fix the problem, or disappoint.

Also, added the SWMotech rack from twisted throttle, to be able to mount a top box, which I have yet to decide on, for now it's a soft bag And, a Kaoko throttle cruise control, I love these, would not have a bike without it, no cramping for me! Also, added the OEM side cases (just yesterday). The dealer swore the instructions were in the box, no instructions of course! but they were very easy to install, I think we will like them, I know my wife will.

I'd like to hear from anyone who changed their windshield, maybe i'll start a thread. I'd like to get a little more wind protection. I had a calsci on one of the bikes, liked it and would really appreciate input.

Finally, love the bike, smooth, great power and very comfortable impressive suspension.

I attached pictures.

Beautiful XC

Hey Loonytuna. I love your XC. She's definately a keeper.

I was in the same boat as you last fall, when I had decided to purchase a new XC. I had never owned a Triumph before although my dealer is only 26 miles from my home & I've been riding for 50 years. Long story short, I had settled on either a black or white XC which I was planning on trading my '08' KLR for. I was going to wait until early spring to trade. Then my dealer mentioned the new Explorer that would be coming out and the rest is history. My wife talked me into keeping the KLR & buying the Explorer outright. (Our wives are so smart...) I've added a pic of mine so that you can see what a GIVI tailcase would look like on yours seeing that we both have OE side cases. I didn't care for the looks or the size of the Trump tail case and I wanted to add an LED light kit to it as well.
