Those of us babyboomers who have been around a while had a tenedency to make friends at an early age and maintain that friendship for decades. You know the person so long they become family a brother. You get to be their best man and they got to be yours. You were able to see each others children grow up. You know each others highs and lows in life.
How valuable is that friendship to you, if you have one...that is my question.

My best friend has been so for 51 years. I remember being upset that I got morning session kindergarten, and he got afternoon. (I think they go all day now, but back in the day it was only a half day for kindergartners)

Very true, John and I have been best friends since 4 years old, I had 3 friends that were in my kindergarten class, unfortunately 2 have passed, and another, a latecomer, LOL, from 3rd grade. I never had a brother, so they are more like brothers to me. I have been best man at 6 weddings, 5 of them friends from grammar school.

I expect my big brother is about my best and oldest friend. We both have scars from the scuffling we did in our younger years but all that is forgotten now. I am looking forward to seeing him next week in Australia. He will also be attending my son's wedding and his son (the same age as my boy) will be the best man. There are going to be two very proud uncles and fathers witnessing that ceremony.

I fell out of touch with a childhood (age of 4 to 18) friend. She moved to California got married and moved to Wyoming. I found out two weeks or so ago that she lived in NM now, two hours from me. I am meeting her for the first time in 40 years. You can say what you want about facebook but it is a great way to reconnect with old friends....:)
