What did you do to your twin today?

The Classic triple forum has a thread for daily modifications and shop work. Lets get that going for twins as well.

Today I lowered my T100's rear brake lever. I took the pin out, the master cylinder off and adjusted the bucket and locknut. Now I won't be beside my brake pedal on that bike, I can be above it, ready to use it just a tiny bit quicker.

I also painted the worst-off gas cap I had, black. So I can ride on sunny days without being blinded by my own bike. - my sun visor is in the helmet, and comes down from the top so I get nice glare off the clocks and tank... :(

I reduced the height of my T100 by 20 mm by putting shorter hagon shocks on back, and raising the front forks thru the yokes (may shorten the spacer later). I like it much better, and ground clearance in turns hasn't been a problem. Also, with my HJC full-faced helmet, I removed the small air scoops in front of the two vents on top of the helmet, and the turbulence noise was reduced drastically (guessing by 75%). The vents were only held on with a caulk type glue.

Are your Bellacorse brackets powder coated bluesman?
Hard to tell but to me they looked good. Also, how was the quality, finish?. They sure are less expensive than others available.
Thanks,

The only reason I went with that set up was so I could run clip-ons. I ditched the clip-ons a while ago and finally got around to replacing the headlight bracket. If I'm not running clip-ons, I think the stock set up looks much better.

Ordered a nice new shiny set of stainless spokes and nipples to replace the originals which look awful (corrosion).

18T to 19T Front Sprocket Conversion: Before and After Photos

Did the 18T to 19T Front sprocket conversion. Before and after photos.

Before:

and After:

:)

As you can see in the second photo, going from 18 to 19 teeth results in a 5.27% reduction in engine revs at a given speed. Looking more closely, we see that there is also a 5.56% increase in speed at any given set of sprocket RPMs.

Well worth doing.

Hope the camera phone pics were clear enough...

Bought a 03 T 100 last month. First bike in 25+ years. Guy was honest. He said he didn't clean it up to much so buyers could get an accurate idea of the "normal" condition. It wasn't too bad. If you have really messy stuff on the rear wheel, use some brake cleaner and shop rags on chrome spoke wheels. Do a little section at a time or the crap will run all over. Makes her look like new.

I disabled the air injection hose with a wire nut as described in one of the other threads. Took it out for another 20 minute ride and the throttle response is significantly better / smoother. I have a new efi Bonneville se.

Also, got my new seat for the bike. Installed that. My bum is happy! Gel and memory foam are man's glorious inventions! Combine that with leather and wow what a difference!.

Front Springs

Upgraded the front springs; learned a LOT.

Before:

I don't have a jack, so after lifting the rear with a Steelhorse stand, I measured 7" from floor to frame directly under the engine. I jammed some wood under the frame and let the rear down and- damn- the front wheel wasn't quite off the ground.

So I let the air out of the rear tire.

That allowed the rear to settle just enough to get me 1/2" of clearance for the front wheel.

Pulled the tire and the brakes per the Haynes manual.
Installed a piece of paper over the right handlebar and front brake lever that says "DON'T TOUCH THE BRAKES".
Off with the mudguard and one of the forks.

Was fairly surprised at just how short the stock front springs are.
Here's a comparison. NOTE: The perspective is skewed in this photo. Both setups (spring, washer, and spacer) are 21" in length.

Yikes. I don't know squat about the boing-i-ness factor of springs, but even a marketing idiot like me can see that this is going to be a nice upgrade.

Poured in the 140mm of BelRay, reinstalled, repeated on the left side, and-

We're good to go!

See the improvement?
Rides even better than it looks. :)

Best,
Hilo

...who hasn't had this much wrenching fun since the mid 70's when he used to climb into the engine compartment of his '65 Galaxie 500 to tune it up...

I hacked my fenders today. Many said it couldn't be done (hack a chrome fender) but I had nothing to lose as you can see from the piece I hacked off. Those of you really paying attention might remember I flipped a trailer in NoCal with my Bonne on it in Sept.

Did my rear with a hack saw. Did my front with a Dremel. Now, granted, when you hack a a chrome fender it doesn't come out perfect. So I hit it with clear coat and put a black decal on it. What do you think?

I also whacked my pipe in the trailer mishap so today I wetsanded it with 220 grit. Pretty pleased with results. Little more elbow grease and she'll be right, especially for a left side pipe.

I'm glad to see you are getting things back in good shape.

Rode into Center City to drop off a turkey at the WMGK/John DeBella Turkey Drop, helping a local food charity to serve people this Thanksgiving. The thermometer on my handlebars said it was 40 F when I dropped it off, John came over and shook my hand for coming out on a bike, admired my Bonnie, told me he'd had a Royal Enfield back in 1968.

Rode to work today. 36 degrees at 5:30 A.M. Sixty miles of smiles (and some shivers).

Crashed it :(

Actually, it was two days ago, but I've just come off the morphine.

Highsided, straight off the right side on a tightening left hand crest. I have no idea what made the rear let go. in hindsight though, making it bite was probably less than optimal. I had just installed new suspension all round, and was tuning it in.

I haven't seen it yet, other than my views of it as I was crawling off the road. At that point I think I went into shock and the rest is a bit blurry.

My mates' told me that the core is still good, but every bit that pokes out is gone. I have memories of it spinning end for end after me down the road. So I think I'll have some time and fun putting it back together.

Luckily for me, I had everything on, Kevlar jeans, capped boots, armour jacket, gloves, and my poor Shoie. Mt whole right side is bruised, and my scapular (shoulder blade?) is in 4 pieces. Bloody Hell I'm off driving and riding for at least 6 weeks. Other than that, a perfect road test for my leathers.

It comes home this weekend, Hooray!! And I'm getting a bike workshop stand for Xmas. I'll be busy...
