We have a racing series here in oz called BEARS Brirish European & American bikes. I have found a 07 S3 that is a statutory write off and I'm thinking about making a race bike out of it and competing in the above series, if economically feasible.
I was wondering if anyone else was doing something similar and if so any tips and advice would be appreciated
Thanks toba for suggesting alloy bar ends to fill the holes where my risers were, they fit perfectly and look heaps better.
Found some more photo's from the track day, will post when I reduce file size.
I think the photos exaggerate the lean, I can just feel my little toe scraping and that is my that's enough signal. I have my rear sets up as high as they will go.
Congrats to Casey Stoner for his motogp success today, thanks also for the great onboard shots.
Some great lines I'll be remembering when I go there in 5 weeks, just wish I could ride half as good....lol
Hi Rob, great shots glad to hear that you really enjoyed the track day. No much riding for my lately, I've been renovating the house since saw you last at Mac Park
Enjoy P Island, in December ....I've been on that track a couple of times - world class!
The new van is coming along nicely, table chairs and spare wheels will go on the sides and there is plenty of space up the front for all the little stuff.
Last round at Philip Island has been cancelled, they couldn't fill the grid for the 8 hour so the event has been canned. This is extremely disappointing for me I was really looking forward to racing there.
There is a race meeting at Eastern Creek Formula Extreme next weekend trying to enter that, fingers crossed
Bummer Rob . I just got the news from a mate was going to be racing there as well ,he's well pissed off .I think he's looking at trying to do EC aswell .
It's official I'm racing in the Pro Twins and Naked Bike class this weekend. I'm surprised my bike is in F1 and a Yamaha FZ1 is in F2 thought they should be in the same class.
It's a tight fit but I've had the scooter and the young blokes cbr250 in their with the race bike at different times.
I'm too lazy to pull it out......lol
Looking forward to tomorrow, just found out that we are using the same track variant that we did last easter for the first race. This will give me an idea if I have improved any, I feel I have, looking back my best time was a 1.58 so my target is to do better than that.
Had a ball mate much quicker than before, ill post up some videos and pictures later. We did end up using the full track though which for m adds about 35 sec
Thanks mate, I'm doing two rounds in Queensland next year so we'll have to catch up at one of them.
I just sold my arrow high mounts to a guy in Brisbane delivering them for him on Monday as I'm up there for work.
I'm a tragic I've been looking at the gopro footage of that meeting trying to find ways to go faster......lol
I'm finally doing more track riding - four days in the past month - and I really don't want to ride the streets anymore. My only real gripe is weight - I'd like to lighten the bike a bit. I probably will remove all the street bits over the winter and then put on a new exhaust - I'm thinking SC Project high single (I just like the look) - and that'll shed some weight. I'm curious if you've found any inexpensive (relatively speaking) ways to drop more weight off the bike?
Good to hear, flash is the expert on weight loss, although I do have titanium hips . I've just done the battery exhaust (mivv) and of course removal of all road gear.
It definitely makes a difference though. I'm into losing a little of my 105 kg which will help me more...lol
Hi kip 2013 calendar finally out, any luck with the cam guy?
Morgan Park May 4/5 which is a definite
Queenland Raceway 23/24/25 August which is a maybe, the week before that we'll be at Hidden Valley in Darwin so not sure I'll have my bike back in time or if I can afford it....lol
What a great weekend bike ran perfectly although still missing top gear sometimes and a little more preload on the front to cope with the bumps in turn 1 which were pretty unsettling at first, van worked out better lot less of a hassle loading and unloading.
I was hoping we were using the old track as mentioned earlier but the new longer track was the one we used which for me was fine as I was very familiar with it, so while quite a few people were complaining I was just smiling.
My mission was to see how much I had improved since I was hear last and I was pumped to do well, I had never raced this series before but it was well run and you got plenty of track time (2 quali and 6 races), the extra track time was my eventual undoing as I was so tired and sore on the sunday arvo I didn't do the last race.
I qualified with a 2.26 which gave me grid 17 out of 20, but managed to get that down 2.22 in race 1 and 2.21 in race 2 which was the quickest I managed. On the sunday I couldn't even get below 2.26 and it seemed the harder I tried the slower I was getting.
I really wanted to get down to to 2.20 but it was not to be but was wrapped with my 2.21. This equates taking off the 35 scs the new section added to roughly a 1.46 a huge improvement on my original 1.58 from last April.
I've got some gopro footage of my 2.22 lap, stupid thing didn't work on the 2.21 and also a good dice with a ducati monster that I will put up on wednsday.
Champion mate. I was trying to get out there to see you but got bogged down with stuff...
By the way, I'm going out to the creek on Sunday to see Mike have a go on his TZ750 in the post classic historics.
Sounds like some good steps have been made in the right direction Rob .:thumb
