Yes, you are crazy! Seriously though it does look like a cool bike and definitely worth a test ride. And most importantly, if you like it, get what you like.
.
Just make sure you sell me that awesome flyscreen you painted if you get rid of your bike...I totally call dibs on that.
I've owned a 2010 street for about 2500km before to switch on the speed, and honestly, i think that the street engine is more fun to ride. I know, lot less torque, and when my girlfriends will be sitting with me, probably i'll regret the speedy, but.....the choice is realy hard to do...
Please explain in a little more detail.? My 08 Speed is the most fun, best handling bike I have ever owned. I have sold all my other bikes after a year or two, lookin for the "perfect" fun/ all around bike. The Speed is a keeper. How/why would the Street be more fun? I know its lighter but there is no way the motor is more fun. A little suspension work and a pipe down low...perfect...Please give more info
Handles better, stops better, wheelies better, does stoppies better, sound insane with the extra revs. They're just a better bike, way more fun and the motor would surprise yo if you haven't ridden one, I don't think there's as much in the big bike as you think.
Honestly I think the only time I would pick the Speed would be 2 up riding or touring with a lot of luggage, but to me touring means you harden up and take whatever can fit in the backpack so no issue.
If you think the 08 Speed handles well you won't know yourself on a Street Trip. The 08-10 Speeds feel like big lazy boats to me, the 11+ Speed is a big improvement but still nothing on the Street Triple
I have my suspension tweak by a pro, and a 3-1 with a good maping, but i like smaller bike. The speed is a big bike. I don't know, i like my speed, but a devil in my head tell me to try the street
When I took my friend's '11 StreetR for a ride, I loved how nimble it was. I missed the low end torque of the S3, but couldn't get over how easy it was to handle.
Gees... I love my Speed, but I am intruiged by the new Street R. However, Id probably wait another 18 months until there are a few leftovers and my house is paid for before I get another bike...
Edit, I may have to take a serious look at the Brutale 800... that looks like it may be an exciting bike as well...
That new 800 might be a good one indeed, bit extra size for the torque, but should still be light. Depends if they get it right though, both their current 675s are still bettered by the Trumpys, they might have just gone 800 as its a different market of sorts and not directly compared to the Triumphs then!
I continually use 'motorcycle math' to justify why bike X is better than my current ride, but the bottom line is I just plain like to get a new toy once in a while.
Though I have to admit, I never wanted to get a bike that was so similar to one I have had.
Read some of the threads where folks on a Street 3 rationalize switching to a Speed 3 just for kicks.
Then go get your new toy! You'll be replacing it in a few years anyway!
I really can't think of many advantages a 675 would have over the 1050. Better gas mileage and lower insurance is about it. I know a lot of people think manueverability and handling would be a great improvement, but for street riding, the difference is negligible. The track is a different story. IMO, being able to cruise at a quiet 4k RPMs with plenty of torque on tap is far more beneficial than any barely perceptible handling advantages.
Why did you sell it then? I wish I had all the bikes I ever sold (wouldn't that be cool) but I always sold to get the "perfect one". I know there is a better one out there ect. The heart of man is never satisfied
Totaly agree with you man But sometime to learn about it, you have to pay some serious cash...not only on bikes, but for your ex wife and your 3 kids....
You tried to find the perfect one too? She aint out there. I have had many many affairs with different bikes but have been lucky to keep my one wife. I think I decided to trade bikes a lot instead. Trading people hurts a lot more.
I had an '08 Street with a Elka shock and an Arrow lowboy. I traded it on a leftover 2011 Speedie (with Arrow lowboy) this spring.
The only thing I miss is the Speedie engine doesn't ramp up the revs in the same way as the 675. Otherwise, I'm happy. The Speed is much better for longer rides. It's less frantic and not as skittish on bumpy backroads.
Maybe the Street R is a better ride than my modded '08... but I had that bike set up perfectly and it railed.
The Speed with lowboy is a lot more serious but still very easy to ride.
Yeah I was serious. Obviously the displacement is smaller just wasn't sure if the bike dimensions were. I didn't like the street simply because i was too tall for it it felt like. I never looked at the bike dimensions.
I've owned a street for a couples of month, and yes, this is a realy smaller bike. Narrower, shorter wheelbase, and a lot lighter.
