Just got my fork brace to fit 2009 Sprint ST. Haven't fit yet because forks are off so I can change steering bearings.

Bicycle part Auto part

These will fit both 955 and 1050 ST.

No group buys on this site unless a moderator wants to run it, sorry. If there's interest in a month or two I'll see about getting one going, but I need to see some feedback on how the product holds up with use first.

Cheers,

And I suggest waiting a bit to be sure the one off version actually fits the forks...

I wasn't aware the Sprint needed a fork brace....

You feel that your Sprint requires more front end rigidity then?

Do USD forks have more rigidity, most likely they do.

Are they a huge advantage over conventional forks for road riding? - not so much.
IMHO correct springing and valving to suit the individual rider and riding style is more important than having USD forks and or a fork brace on a Sprint.

As for a fork brace being required for rigidity on a Sprint I also find it unnecessary.
Neither have I read other owners until this thread thinking they required one, neither have I read any reviews that thought the bike needed a fork brace.

I have never felt the need for one and have pushed my bikes fairly hard, road and track :)

Also my opinion but based on 8 years of 955 and 1050 Sprint ownership, and also having owned and ridden many other sports bikes.

Perhaps on a race track a fork brace on a Sprint it might be a noticeable benefit.

I think for most riders on the road it would be just more weight.

Does the Sprint need a fork brace? Probably not. Does the Sprint need a different exhaust, mapping, air filter, different gearing, carbon fiber, suspension, etc? Probably not. The bike, as it comes from the factory, will perform above the riding skill level or all but a few. But, do I want to do those things? Yes I do because that is what I like to do. It is all subjective when it comes to individualize ones ride.

And what have you done to your bike that was not needed?

I hope you have a very Merry Christmas.

Hey Chill out Phillip it wasn't a personal attack but an opinion.

Just like yours is an opinion. You also have not stated why you personally think you need a fork brace.

If you post anything on a forum you have to expect people will not always agree with you.

I don't agree with you, that a fork brace is required for road riding on a Sprint and that is my opinion.

All the things I have been done to my own bikes over almost 4 decades have been performance based or because I like the appearance.

There is nothing wrong with any of that.

I am merely stating I think a fork brace will give negligible if any noticeable improvement in handling for road riding on a Sprint.

If you think that it does well go for it if it turns your crank, it is your money and your bike but I don't have to agree with you just as many may not agree with my opinions on lots of things posted here.

Cheers
Dave :)

Dave,

I never took your response as a personal attack. It's hard to gauge someone with just the written work, we really need to see their body language too. Maybe I should use more happy faces.:)

My point is just as you stated, it's about what we like, what turns our crank. The fork brace is just something I like. I never stated it was needed, just passing on something I did and letting members know it is available if they so desired. I have had them on other bikes (been riding since 1965) that made a difference ( MG LeMans for one) and others no noticeable difference. Again, I don't think the ST needs one but I wanted one. :dunno

I will have to wait until spring to ride again. We just got 20 inch of snow here.:cold Spring is a long way off.:SadSigh

Here is a list of what I did to my BMW that I had for 9 years, the longest I ever owned one bike, I hope the ST can fill it's shoes. I enjoy this kind of stuff.

04 R1100S BCR # 195
03 R1100S BCR #44 R.I.P.
103 RWHP 76 FTLBS torque
1150 cc cylinders
12:1 SJBMW pistons
BMW 36 mm intake valves
Ported and polished heads (just a little)
'07 R1200R cams
TBs bored +3 mm
Throttle bodies matched to rubber mounts matched to heads
SJBMW Exhaust Accelerator Kit (modified)
Exhaust pipe welds ground down
Laser Exhaust
Laser 2 spark Chip
RC Engineering injectors
InDuct
SJ PowerFilter
K's 3.5 bar regulator
Ohlins
Sargant Seat
Spiegler SS Brake Lines
LED tail/stop light and turn signals
Aux Fuel Tank (6.8 gallons total)

Just sharing :chatterbox, making no judgements.

:hmmthink

Oh ya :happy christmas

Thanks Phil I agree happy faces are good :)

And yes it is hard to tell on the iterwebby without seeing someone in the flesh I agree.

Nice and impressive list of stuff you had on your Bimmer.

The longest owned bike I have had is my 2004 Sprint ST - 7 years.

This is what I did to it:

Triumph Gel seat

Rad Guard radiator and oil cooler protector

Ventura pack rack

Custom valved rear rebuilt showa shock

Heavier fork oil up front

Datatool S3 alarm (removed after 3 years when it went bonkers)

Union Jack tack protector

Triumph Off road SS exhaust can

Also Triumph CF off road exhaust can

Triumph rear hugger

Later changed to Powerbronze CF look alike hugger after Triumph one broke

Daytona hubnut cover

18 tooth front sprocket and std on rear

Dual headlamp relay.

In 76,000kms used 20 rear tyres and 14 fronts :)

Cheers

Hello All
I"ll let you know why I might consider a fork brace on my Sprint GT. You see, here in New England, the road surface is less than ideal. Frost heaves and pot holes are just part of life. As much as you try to find the perfect line down the road, you end up tracking over some nasty tarmac from time to time. I find that a fork brace is most valuable in the moments just after you feel the jolt from the front end as you run over some nasty section of the road. It's been my experience that the brace acts as a damper and brings the front end back sooner with less drama after the jolt.
