Alarm Systems?

I sadly am leaving my city dwelling for something out in the suburbs. My ST3 will also be leaving the comfort of his warm dry secure underground parking garage.

With my new location, I will have no choice but to park my bike out on the street  or if I'm lucky in a parking area between row houses..

Should I think about an Alarm System and if so any recommendations?

It is a generally nice area with lots of mothers and there newborns going for walks etc.. but .. you never know right..

Thanks

I use a Scorpio alarm that has a shock, tilt, and perimeter sensor. They have a factory type connector as an option so hook right up under the seat without any cutting or splicing of wires. Just plug it in and make a battery connection. It integrates with your signal lights and ignition through the connector. I use their alarm on all of my bikes to keep honest people honest and off of my bikes. If someone really wants it nothing is going to stop them but locking it to something solid and perimeter alarm with deter most.

Gorilla Alarm

I bought the Gorilla Alarm for CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP on EBay and even though I hate EBay, the price was so good I couldn't pass it up. I had a difficult time finding a place to mount it and ended up under the rear fender on the top, left side with the supplied self adhesive velcro. First ride, guess what? The self adhesive didn't adhere on an entrance ramp onto I95 and the unit went flying.

I couldn't believe it when I called the Gorilla Alarm Company and they sent me an entire new unit. I don't think that was covered under the warranty but, there are still good guy companies out there. I went to Home Depot and got some extra heavy duty, self adhesive velcro, cleaned the area thoroughly with alcohol and then added heavy duty super glue to the adhesive on the velcro before applying it. I let it sit for 12 hours before touching it and so far, so good.

I like the alarm and I'm really thankful to and impressed by the company's customer service.

I've got a Scorpio i900.. Works pretty well, as my wife's cousin went to sit on my street and the alarm went off before he got it off the kickstand. It scared him and he took off running.
The biggest downside to the alarm is keeping the battery charged, I left my bike sit for a month and it drained the battery to where I couldn't start the bike again. You've also got to remember to keep the key-chain part charged, but that isn't that big of a deal.

Great feedback guys - keep it comming!

It seems like Scorpian, Mongoose and Gorilla are the popular ones. (so far)

When googling (before getting feedback) I found Gorilla and the marketing at least is very nice and the producr seems really accessible and friendly to use.

I never thought about placement I assumes it had a perfect location but it makes it an important aspect. Where does everyone typically place thiers?

Battery Drain? Would starting once a week good enough to avoid the issue? Good point to remember I suppose..:D

I live in Florida and haven't worried about it because I ride all the time but, with the Gorilla remote you don't have to arm the alarm at all. For instance, I don't turn it on in my garage or even if I'm somewhere I can see it. The remote is a replacable coin type lithium battery so you also don't worry about charging it.

Exactly. It's just like a car alarm. You don't have to turn it on at all. I think the insurance companies here require alarms that turn on automatically to get the insurance discount, which is so small it really doesn't matter. Hence the auto turn on feature on some alarms.
