hey guys,
just bought a 1995 s3, 6k miles. bone stock.
my problem is this:
bike starts easy and idles well.
off idle accelleration and full throttle all runs great.
when coming off the trottle and braking hard the bike stalls...
it will restart everytime and idle fine like nothing happened.
it sounds like the idle goes so low the engine just dies.
any suggestions? i cleaned the carb fuel filters when i changed the carb intake boots. no kinks in the fuel line.
is there a fuel filter in the gas tank?
any and all help is appreciated... i love the bike and it looks great but this is pissing me off and i have no patience for this crap.

thanx,
orngs3

OrangeS3,

Take off the tip over valve coming off the tank if you have one and see if it stops stalling (just dont drop the bike :-D ). This exact thing was happening to me on a used bike that had been sitting for a year and a half. The valve goes between the vent from the gas cap and the evap canister. It's there to prevent fuel from leaking out of the tank in the event that the bike winds up on its side. When it sits for a long time the vaps make the valve tacky on the inside and vibration causes it to stick closed. The vaccume that is created causes the bike to stall when quickly coming down in RPMs. A new valve is about twenty bucks but bypassing it for testing is free.

It is also a good idea to replace the spark plugs, as they are know to be affected by moisture when sitting for prolonged periods.

Let me know if this works for you.

Ed
