Bonnie America w/Staintunes

banging my head against the ol' wall here trying to get the correct combination of idle & main jet sizes installed. The last lingering issue is a backfire from the right side. Thinking I may not be able to get away without doing something with the air box.

1.) All AI components removed
2.) Not a California machine
3.) Pilots: 45 (stock is 42)
4.) Mains: 135 (stock is 120)
5.) Staintune restrictor removed

Nothing has been done to modify stock air box.

I'm sure I am not the only one out there who is running these pipes:
TR MS BON AM

Any hands-on info would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance.

Bill - Coventry, RI USA

A backfire is unburned fuel detonating and is usually associated with a rich condition which would make sense if you rejetted with a stock air box. I have staintunes with a KN foam filter and only adjusted the fuel/air screws to a sniffer with NO rejet.

Try Dinqua's jetting calculator.

Thumbs up Thanks Normandy

I've had my eye on either that filter or going all out and changing out the box. Shame all these "extra" parts had to come into play. There was a day when this was simple...................

Staintunes

Put Staintunes on my '06 SM, left restrictors in. After a couple of weeks developped backfire. Removed a/i, rejetted to 135 main, put in K@N air filter, runs smooth as silk. Left restrictors in Staintunes, like 'em that way.....

Thumbs up Thanks HTOWNCRUISER

ordered my KN air filter - need to run with filter in place before I consider going back to stock pilot jets. The gain has been worth the pain - just want that ****ed popcorn popper out of my pipes !!
