8k vs. 12k Valve Clearance Adjustment

Hello Everyone.
My 2003 Speed Four recently rolled past 8,000 miles. I perform all maintenance on my bike myself, so I called my dealer to find out whether they stock all the parts I will need including cam cover and chain tensioner seals. He asks me why I want these parts as valve clearance does not have to be checked/adjusted until 12,000 miles. I beg to differ. According to my owners manual as well as every copy of it posted on the Internet calls for this service every 8,000 miles. He persists to tell me this service is not due at this time. Is this guy crazy?

As of now I am still planning on checking/adjusting clearance; I have always felt that if a manufacturer recommends that a service be performed at a certain interval, it should be performed. My question: has anyone been told the same thing by his/her dealer? Would this guy's opinion be different if I were willing to pay the dealer to perform this service? I am not opposed to waiting if this is the normal recommendation by most dealers.

Thanks in advance,
Mark Cergizan

What I've gathered from the forum is that the older specification was 8000 miles, and Triumph then changed it to 12,000.

My 2005 specifies 12,000 miles.

The 05 Sprint is 12k. I just had the 12k service done on my Sprint at the dealer. He told me one valve was out. I'll never know. I usually do my own service but since the bike goes out of warranty next month and I had a couple of warrenty issues to fix I'd bit the bullet.

I drove over to the dealer to pick up the rest of the parts and had a talk with their technician. He did verify that Triumph later changed the service interval to 12,000 miles, and also told me that he doesn't recommend his customers change the air filter or fuel filter and spark plugs until the 12,000 mile mark either. Rad! Looks like all I need to do is the oil/filter service and ride until then.
Thanks for the feedback,

My '07 T100 owner's manual specifies 12K adjustment intervals.
