Plug wires failing

I was wondering if I am about to get into a "gotcha" here. I had my #1 plug wire fail, the part that goes on the top of the plug itself got really loose and turned black like it was melting. I have Nology coils that have been in service for 4 years. No problems until last Friday. So, I bought a set of wires, replaced only the #1 wire. It was working great. Rode about 10 miles, then the #2 wire failed. Same exact thing happening. These are the original wires, 8 years old. Should I be looking for a electrical issue, or just replace all three? Is there a reason other than the things being old that this is happening?

Thanks for any and all help.

If you got 8 years out of them you're doing good. I'd replace all of them. Make sure all of the connections are clean

If it were me, the fact that one failed means that it's time to replace all of them.

Ok, no soap. All wires replaced, and is still having trouble with fire. The coils were replaced in 2004. Any ideas?

I'd try the coils next, going from less expensive to more expensive. Do you have working originals to try?

I got it tracked down to the leads behind coil position 3. Between the igniter and coil I think. Coils 1 and 2 are fine. I switched two of the coils, and coil position 3 does not fire no matter which coil is there. So, i'm going to check ground first and track the short. yipee.....

Ok, thinking I am really in some trouble here. Seems the igniter is bad. I am wondering if it is something else. Bad pickup coil maybe? But would that cause the plug wires to fail then the igniter? A short somewhere? sheesh.

Ok, so I have replaced the wires, igniter, and ignition sensor. Still not starting. However, I have noticed it is throwing spark between the negative plug on coil number 1 and coil number 2. I'm thinking short somewhere. Anybody?
