1998 Speed Triple - Ignition Map?

I recently purchased a 1998 Speed Triple. Someone suggested that I get the most recent ignition map downloaded onto the black box.

Why would I want to do something like this?

Thanks in advance.

kenspank, Does your S3 run okay? If so, don't worry. The Triumphs that benefit from the 'latest map' are those with digital speed-o-meters, with OEM tune and exhaust.

I agree with bradtx, if it's running well, leave it alone.

BUT, if you must:
There are no updated maps or "tunes" as the thriumphistas call them for your year bike.

The dealer has access to only 1 supplemental tune called the TOR (triumph off road) per model year. You might check the dealer for your bikes compatability, since the 99 model years have a TOR, and if your bike was built late in 98, it might have the 99 ECU.

if that is the case, you can get much better results with a tuneboy (do a search)

Niot quite true - there are generally at least two alternative tunes per model/year - in the case of the T509 there is the std; low mount after-market; high mount after-market which are tunes 9852, 9853 & 9854 respectively.
