My '67 Trophy has started dripping oil out the crankcase breather tube. At first it put out quite a volume but a trip to the doctor for a new oil pump has it down to a drop about every 10 seconds or so when the bike is at idle. Also, the breather tube is not putting out any air when the engine is running. I've been told that it should although do not know if that is true. Does anyone have any clue as to where the problem might lie?

Isn't the breather connected to the froth tower in the oil tank? If replacing the oil pump reduced the amount of oil from the breather I assume the crankcase had been filling with oil by running back through a worn or jammed pump. Your engine would have the timed breather disc on the inlet cam. It must pass some air if it is passing oil. That is it's purpose; to relieve crankcase pressure as the pistons are on the down stroke. This is more important on the 360° parallel twin like the old Triumph engine.

Thanks for the reply. The Triumph doctor mentioned the location of the air relief, sure hope I don't need to go there. Yes, the breather is connected to one of the oil tank lines with an h shaped fitting. Since the motor only has about 2,000 miles on it someone else suggested that perhaps the rings have not completely seated yet and are allowing a bit more blowby than they should. Guess time will tell.
