I just bought the new Tiger 1050 and have a question about cleaing the headlight lens and screen. I get a lot of bugs on both and want to know if it's safe to clean them everytime I ride. It seems that they would scratch up pretty fast. Any suggestions on cleaning and protecting?

I clean my Triumph Roadster windscreen and headlight lens before every ride. I make my own window cleaner, from a recipe I got from a local radio 'handyman'. It works great and has never scratched either. It contains the following which I mix in a spray bottle (less than 32 oz.):

1. One drop of dish soap
2. 2-3 tbsp. of clear ammonia
3. 1 drop of rubbing alcohol
4. Fill the rest with water

I have used this mix for at least ten years now, inside my house, in the car and on my bikes. My wife even likes it. Doesn't streak and has never damaged anything I've used it on.

In my garage I keep a microfiber cloth and a can of Plexus. That stuff works great on any bike part to clean off bugs-paint, wheels, flyscreen, chrome, ect. Quick spray, let it sit for 3 seconds, and wipe. Takes all of 5 minutes to quick clean the America and as a bonus a light polish is left behind. I also take a real small Plexus travel size with measured spray delivery with me on every ride-sometimes the goggles get wacked pretty good!

One vote for Lemon Pledge spray and a soft cloth. It works great on windscreens and helmet visors. No scratches, easy to get and inexpensive. Wouldn't leave home w/o it in my tankbag, beside the can of spray chain lube.

Make that another vote for plexus. I use it on everything, it is the new windex. Perfect for helmet visors, the stuff was designed to be used on plexiglass helicopter canopies to clean without scratching. Magic product, a little expensive but it goes a long way.

I use Meguire's Clear Plastic Polish on my cars tailights and plastic headlights, works great and really makes them looks like new.

Maguire's Clear Plastic Polish ... I swear by that product, I use it to clean the bike, plastic or metal, chrome, because it contains no grit like most polishes and is safe to use on any surface.

The best product I've used to clean windshields and bugs off my R3 is the laundry product "Bounce." Normally used in the drying mode, it prevents static cling and makes your clothes smell better? Use a Bounce paper and a cup of plain water, rub on the area to be cleaned and wait a few seconds. A chalky white film will appear and need to be rinsed off. Excellent job, no adverse effects on plastic or paint.

+1 with the Plexus! I was using Windex like a dumbass until UncleCharlie wised me up and turned me onto this stuff! I have a nice inventory of this, Captain Richards Best (or as Mikey calls it "The Bom") and S100 Total Cycle Cleaner; I'm still on the fence with the chrome but I think the Bom takes care of that as well.
