prepping used tank for shipping

Hey all

I am going to be selling a used gas tank from my 96 s3, and I'm wondering what the best proceedure is for making it ready to ship.

Thanks for any help! Matt

I don't know about the rest, but....

Step 1: Air it out real good!

Cheers,

1. empty gas
2. let it air out in ventilated area
3 tape it off so stuff wont get in the tank after dry
4 buy box and peanuts and make sure there is enough space between the box and tank so it is unlikely to get dinged up.
5 I usually use ups for bigger stuff.

Dont light a match around the fumes

If I was doing it;

1. Air it out!
2. Get a slightly oversize box
3. Wrap the tank WELL with paper and then lots of plastic
4. start spraying expanding foam, let it harden and then add more foam. (Costs a few bucks but how much is a gas tank worth?)

At the receiving end it should arrive undamaged.

Hi,

It may be worth checking with the shipper. Internationally a fuel tank is classed as 'dangerous cargo' and not allowed (unless certified to have been cleaned by an approved company - expensive).

Ciao,
Geoff

The last one I shipped

I removed all fittings and washed out with simple green, and sloshed oil in, after drying out with a blow dryer, double boxed, with lots of bubble wrap and peanuts.
