Chrome on exhaust - Scrambler '06

At the bend where the exhaust pipes connects to the engine, about a 100 small "lines/scratches/cracks" has appeared in the chrome, and they turn black because of the temperature after only 1000km. (I don't have to say, it looks like s***!)

I have not scratched the chrome in any way or spilled anything on them!

My dealer told me, that this was common on the Scrambler exhaust, because of the sharp bend. He said nothing about this when I bought the bike, so should I put up with this or try harder to make him change the front part of the pipe?

Cheers Peter

A colour change is normal but I've seen nothing resembling scratches on my
'06 model. I would press for a change.

The pipes on my Scrambler are the same, looks like fine cracks all along the bend.

My dealer in California said its just "heat checking" and "it's normal, don't worry about it".

I'd kind of like to have them replaced. I may ask the shop here in New Orleans...

I have been pressing for the change, and Wednesday my dealer accepted - sort of - he has only seen the cracking on pictures, but has to see it first hand, before any final decision is taken. However the dealer doesn't expect any problems.

Cars and bikes are very expensive here in Denmark, my scrambler ON SALE cost me aprox. 12.000£ or 24.000$, and I wasn't told, that I should expect this problem.

I am going by the dealer Monday week 42, so I will post after that.

Fingers crossed on both hands!

Last week my dealer put new exhaust pipes on my scrambler! Looks great!

However before he changed the pipes, he showed me his demo-bike which had 2500 km on the dial. The cracks was also visible here.

And if you really study the new pipes close up, you can see small "hills and valleys" in the chrome.
