Mixing oil

My question is ...........

is it ok to mix different brands of oil?

If I used XYZ brand--full synth with say Mobil 1 full synth.
Is this ok ?

I'm talking maybe 1/2 quart/litre not 2 qts/ltrs of each.
Just to "top off" between oil changes.

Cool

its alwayto each ther u know the rest the only reason i use the same oil is....u want the best oil for the engine and there can only be one type that is the best so why not make it 100% of the best oil? now on the other hand if i was broke down , on some highway i would be thankful for any type oil available and ..........................................maybe a beer

I use whatever synthetic oil is on sale when I need oil. Because it is sold in quarts or liters, I often have a partial quart bottle left over after an oil change. It has never bothered me to use the remainder of the quart bottle with some other brand to get the right amount of oil in the bike. They have minor variences in characteristics, but as long as the oil is clean and there is the right amount, I don't worry too much.

If you're using full synth oil of the correct weight that doesn't have nasty car additives, you'll be absolutely fine. (If you're only talking about half a quart, even some of the bad car stuff would probably be okay.)

Bottom line is, don't sweat it.

Cheers,
-Kit

The bottom line is you can use just about any oil of the correct viscosity and grade, mixed in any combination you like, provided that you change it & the filter frequently enough based on how you run the bike. All the rest is commentary.

Thanks !!

I only need to add like 1/2--1/3 quart.

I'm taking a 1000 mile loop next weekend so just curious about mixing different brands.

All modern motor oils will mix without a problem. That goes for synth and dino oil mixed together as well. In a pinch, any oil is better than no oil.
