Has anyone fitted the unrestricted carb rubbers to their bike ? I have the "off road" silencers fitted and together with the different rubbers the bike is supposed to be good for 84BHP.
Just wandering whether there is a downside to changing the rubbers, like a loss of low down torque or increase in fuel use.
I would not want to sacrifice torque for a bit more top-end which would only get used occasionally. Any thoughts ?

Top of the morning to you Slinky,
Here in the colonies we have a motorcycle magazine by the name of "Rider". They have a British chap named Andrew McDonald who writes the answers in the tech Q&A, his word is gospel.

A question very similar to yours was asked once and he recomended using the rubbers from one of the 97 horse power models(Sprint 900 and Trophys) in place of yours. What do you have, a T-bird, a Legend? Another option he suggested was to relieve the inside diameter of your intake rubbers with an x-acto knife, very carefully, that is.

It was also suggested that if you are running a T-3(T-bird, Legend), the cams from one of the 97 HP models are a straight drop in, a pretty simple way to gain a lot of giddy up and go.

Go for it and while you're at it, get a K&N air filter. Let us know how it works out.
Good luck, j98sprint

Any input on installing the "off-road" pipes and intake rubbers as the only modification? I've read that carb work was not required with these mods, and getting into the carbs was not usually a good thing. I had an old T-bird that had a jet kit, and the mileage was dreadful, and got worse as the carbs were adjusted to cut down on the back firing on deceleration. Has anyone done just the pipes/rubbers? Any popping/backfiring issues?

John Wilcox tuning http://www.wilcoxengines.demon.co.uk/triindex.htm
Have some interesting figures on the website for the various stages of tune. It seems they do the engine development work for the factory, so they should know their stuff.
They also have their own cams which are claimed to give 94 bhp with the exhaust & carb rubber mods, without sacrificing the bottom end.
