Having never owned a 'new' new bike before I have a question I have heard it said that you need to run a bike in slowly and carefully or it will become troublesome. BUT I have also heard it said that from day one ride your bike like you would ride it any other day and not to treat it with kid gloves. As a fitter and turner I have a good understanding that when a bike is new its parts will be at close tolerances and that bearing need to bed in etc. I also understand that if something is kiddy gloved too much when you want it to have balls it will have issues.

So, is there a fine line between running in and babying?

Also the Trumpy manual says to use only synthetic oils in their engines but I've heard that using said oils when the engine is new will cause cylinder glazing and I hate honing bores so run in with mineral oil or semi synthetic as opposed to fully synthetic?

As a fitter and turner I expect you will be "mechanically sympathetic". Your engine will tell you when it wants you to back off a little. Listen to it and you'll have no problems. I've used this technique on cars and bikes for more years than I care to remember.
