I was given a Joe Rocket Blaster tank bag. I have a daytona 955i which does not have a metal tank. The bag has plastic clips on it to attach straps that could tie it to the frame, but the bag didn't come with straps. Where can I get straps to secure the bag to my frame?

I have a 99 Sprint ST and had a similar issue with my eclipse tank bag.

My bag also has fastex clips and straps. The original straps I have were made to attach to the edges of the gas tank and very short, but I didn't use them. My bag has 5 clips, but I only use 3 of them. One near each of the four corners and one in the middle at the back of the back.

If you don't have straps, my bag had the same clips / strap as most backbacks, etc.... I found strap material and extra clips at sporting goods stores.

I removed the clips from the original straps and bought some 1" wide nylon strap. 2 pieces, each about 18" long. The same material as the original straps but longer. I put the3 of the original clips on the new strap material. On on each end of the front strap, and one in the middle of the back strap.

I've attached the bag in the front near the steering head bearing and in the back at the rear mounting bolts for the gas tank.

In the front, I ran the strap under the front of the tank, but behind the single bolt at the very front of the tank. If you look under the tank, you can see a small gap between the frame and the rank. This single strap attaches to the clips on the left front and right front of the tank bag. It is easier to run the strap first and attach the clips second.

On the back, I couldn't find a place to easily loop the strap under the tank. Instead I cut a hole in each end of the back strap. A match or torch will melt the edges of the cut webbing. I removed the two bolts and washers mouning the rear of the tank to the frame. I used these bolts to secure each end of the strap. I put the fastex clip in the middle of the strap. The back strap makes a triangle shape when attached to the bag. Lower left attached to the left tank bolt, up to the middle where it attaches to the bag with the clip, back down to the lower right tank bolt.

This holds the bag failrly well. It could be better from side to side but works well front to back. Doesn't fall off.

Just today installed a strap on system to the GS. The straps are about two feet long, with those clips at either end. I know they are available at REI, and probably at most sporting goods stores as well. REI has the clips and strapping available separately, so one could get exactly the right length. Hmm - might go do that.

Thank you for the posts. I think I am going to the sporting good store soon. I'll let you know how it turns out.
