Hello,

I would like to change out the bars on my Tbird pretty soon. I was thinking of buying some Generic $20-30 bars rather than spending $139 for the triumph lower bars kit.

When I replace the bars will I need to replace the left grip? Or can I blow it off with an air compressor.
How do I install the grip? When I used to work at a bicycle shop we put grips on with hairspray because the hairspray would lubricate the grip to slide it on. When the hairspray dried it became sticky and held the grip in place. Can I use this same technique?

What else do I need to know? (other than making sure the handle bar doesnt hit the tank)

Thanks

It sounds like you have it figured out just fine. There are many ways to R&R grips. I use the compressor to remove and replace them, but the way you described should work just fine.

I have done this, using WD-40 and a knitting pin on the left hand grip. Easy Peasy.

Another thing to consider: the instrument housings have a plastic tab that goes into a matching hole/dimp in the original bars. You could either file off the tabs, or make corresponding holes in the new bars. (first option easiest, but use some electrical tape under to make a good fit)

Good luck!

I use W-D40 and just work the little plastic tube up inside an inch or so, along side a small awl. Then to remount them I soak the inside with Dupont Acryli-clean. (It is made to clean oil and wax off before painting.) It makes the inside of the grip almost greasy but evaporates very quickly. In half an hour it is on tight.
