Well, it had to happen eventually. The bike wouldn't start. The clocks lit up, the ECU make its whirring noise, and life was good. Then I hit the starter button and everything went dark. I am guessing that it is a blown fuse. After 33K miles and living outside all its life, the bike is allowed a bit of wierdness. Since it was Monday morning and I was already late for work, I didn't check anything, so I don't really know what the issue might be. If anybody has suggestions for things other than fuses, please let me know.
Thanks.

Yep. First thing I looked at. I didn't pull the fuses, but I did make sure they were all plugged in. I also felt around for any connectors that might be loose, but it was all completely unscientific, since I was in a pretty big hurry. Having a job makes eating easier, but it sure takes time away from important things, like bikes!

About 6 months. It acted like the starter switch killed the battery. That makes me think it is a tired fuse, but I don't know why the fuse would get tired. I will pick up a fuses of various sizes on the way home this evening. It is almost like the main 40 amp fuse blew, since everything just went dark. Either that or a main ground somewhere came apart suddenly. There was none of the flickering that would indicate a loose connection. Also, the battery was fine, then the bike was all dark.

Just a thought. I had a CB900 that I rebuilt a few years ago and it kept doing the same thing that you mentioned. Drove me crazy. Turned out that the battery connection was tight but not tight enough. A little corrosion got in there and until I cleaned it and really tightened it, she wouldn't start or light up. I changed the starter relay, all the fuses, then started looking at the starter itself. But nope ... just the battery connection.

Bill- that was exactly what it was. Somehow the positive terminal was snug but not tight. No problems now that it is tight. Except that I feel like an idiot!

I would rather feel like an idiot over and over again rather than have a major issue take away large amounts of riding time and cash. :-D
