I just purchased my first bike, a 1999 Legend TT, with 4700 miles on it. Everything seems to be working great, but I was wondering if there is anything I should have checked out or be wary of before to any serious riding? I'm taking it to a dealer to have looked at and I'd like to have some idea what to ask about.

Thanks for any suggestions!

These bikes are pretty solid.

If it runs well and there are no problems, it should be good till the 6000 mile service. Just make sure the 500 mile service was done.

Check all fluid levels - oil, coolant, brake fluid. If the oil doesn't look clear and new, change it and the oil filter. Check chain tension and lube the chain. Check air pressure in tires. Closely inspect all nuts, bolts and other fasteners - things vibrate loose on motorcycles easily. Check brake pads for at least minimum thickness. Wash and clean the bike as if you were detailing it for a show and you wanted the judges to be able to touch it anywhere with a white glove and not see any dirt, grim, etc. - 99% of the things I find I need to do on my bike are found while detailing.

As for the dealer, I would ask him to check out the alignment of the wheels and the front end (too much or too little play in the steering bearings, worn bearings, twisted forks, etc.).

Change all the fluids now...then hop on that puppy and RIDE! If there's any issues with the suspension, forks, tires, or wheels, you'd have "found" them by now.
