I recently took apart 2 94 Tiger engines. When I took the head off the engine on one of them. The 8 bolts holding the head in place were rusting. One of them was half cut by rust. I had to take the cylinder liners out and clean all this gunk out. I know that the anti freeze might contain water causing rust but this was really bad. The other engine was fine no rust at all. How do I prevent this from happening again? Could I use pure antifreeze or must it be 50/50 water antifreeze. Is there such a thing as non rusting antifreeze?
You want to look for glycol based antiffreeze. DO NOT USE NORMAL ANTIFREEZE WITHOUT WATER!!! I highly recommend flighing the engine with the deposits in the coolant channels too.
No, after a long while of not flushing an engine deposits build up. When I ripped appart my 20+ year old 305ci V8 from my project car it was the same way. And that motor was running until I ripped it appart.
The rust inhibiter in Anti-Freeze has a useful life span. It must be changed once in awhile.[Reminds me, I need to change mine this year.] I use 50% Anti-Freeze with water. Also, you must purge out any air in the cooling system.
